Not a bad idea - You can have a quick disconnect bracket and get a fold out mini kicker tripod installed on it.

I agree with you...my boss has a solar panel set up for his and it is detachable for the same reasons. Granted he is an engineer and plans for every worst case, but detachable only gives you options instead of limiting them.

apparently I read about it in some army magazine. Not sure if it being tested or actually works. But it supposedly replaces batteries over long hauls with a pack and for vehicle applications as well.

Gray. That's what color I used. It matches all the grease, oil, brake dust and other vehicle related waste material.

Sooo... I don't suppose any of you guys in the NOVA area have experience with CV boots? Dealer quoted $500 to replace one side. And is this a case where I get the Toyota part, or is an aftermarket part like SDHQ's boots a better choice?

CVJ or i read somewhere that you can use a Porsche boot. Are you going to rebuild yourself? or send out? Also, @DOUBLLD can do it.

I have an extra CV that I need to rebuild, and store in my parts

I'm not sure, I come from the land of solid-axles, never had to deal with a CV boot so I don't really know what all is involved. At this point I'm not even sure I should drive it unless it's to get the thing fixed.
