so oncoming 18wheeler kicked up something and instant crack. I know in Texas they won't seal up damages on the drivers side. How much do you guys think it will cost me to replace the whole thing

I went to a glass shop in dallas, not one of the fancy pants ones with commercials and it was 230 out the door, took about 40 mins.

This was for a bmw with every possible sensor to accommodate, safelite wanted 800.

If it were mine the total cost of replacement world be $0.00 as its an insurance claim and under full coverage windshield is 100% covered. For the record I had one window chip repaired years ago and will never have it done again. I simply wait until the chip turns into a crack and get a new windshield.

I think my deductible is $500. But if replacement is less than that I'd rather go without the hit on my insurance.

So you're going to pay monthly premiums for insurance and then also pay for repairs that insurance covers too?

It shouldn't go up, it's not like you were at fault.

$0 with full coverage. My truck is paid off so I am not required to carry full coverage but I feel it is a good idea to do so.

Not technically covered under insurance if the cost is less than the deductible because I would be charged the full amount anyhow. In that case might as well not use insurance.

A few years back I filed a claim for a hit and run. Wasn't my fault. My rates went up the next time I renewed because it was a claim filed.

If you're afraid to use your insurance to do what you pay it to do, you need to re-examine your policy or get a new carrier.

My insurance wouldnt cover a certain size crack, like 8 inches or something. My crack was about 2.5 feet since it was L shaped.

Depends on which state and your ins company. Best advice is to call them.

So I ended up calling my Ins agent and she told me the deductible was $50 but any claim regardless of it's your fault or not as long as they are paying for your car is documented in a database. So in the future if you're searching for new rates, companies pull info from this database in regards to your past claims. That's how rates increase. Anyways I called around and found a shop that would replace the windshield and include the go pro mount for $160. Thanks everyone for your input!

Changed my comp deductible because of all the windshield issues ive read and I drive on the I-5 every day. extra $50 a year, but if it breaks before 10 years then it paid itself off.

In TX, glass is not covered by full or by comprehensive. Requires add-on glss coverage.

A couple of years ago I called progressive to check if windshield was covered. Just to check, they opened a claim and told me $500. I told them I would replace it myself and they closed the claim. However, that claim was on my record and caused higher insurance rate when I switched insurers.
