Finally got my Front Runner Rack installed!

    20170803_135321.jpg

    20170803_135334.jpg

I bolted a Plano tactical rifle case to the rack. This contains my recovery gear (tree saver, snatch straps, snatch block, winch remote, etc). The case already has two key locks built in. And with the nuts inside it won't come off easily!

    20170731_210151.jpg

The hardest part of the install for me was cutting the holes in the weather strip on the truck. Instructions recommend using a 22mm punch... or a holesaw. The holesaw is a TERRIBLE idea. There is a metal strip run through the rubber that binds in the saw bit and tears things up.

Had to order my punch online since no hardware store had it locally.

    20170801_205827.jpg

Also, my dealer sold me new weather strips for $84 each. So don't mess up!

Originally I was going to mount two 2gal Rotopax and two 2 gal waterpax on the rack. However, I discovered that it is not easy being short and trying to pull two Rotopax off the roof at once. Plus, because my gas pax are deformed (heat) they don't stand well.

This picture shows my original layout plan. I ended up doing a single Rotopax stack in the center as nd the Escapee Buddy traction boards on the driver side.

    20170731_210339.jpg

Best part is I can still park in my garage!

    20170802_231521.jpg

The truck looks much better with the rack too. I think folks will get the overloading vibe from it more now.

Oh yes. And Weesa pulled some weeds for me while I worked on the roof rack.

And she helped me lift it up onto the roof.

You did help me organize the nuts, washers, and bolts too. Plus you measured stuff.

How much do Rotopax swell in the heat?

    This much.

    20170805_090201.jpg

Now that they are cool this morning it took 6 turns to snug them down.

Seems like I only read negative things about them. Would you buy them again?

I dunno. Probably not. I don't really find them all that unique. Roof mounting doesn't work because you can't vent them if they lay flat. Their bracket that mounts them to the bed rail sucks. They swell so bad you can't get them off their bracket to use them. And when they shrink they become loose and fall off.

I bought a big blue plastic jug for water on camping trips. Easier to open and pour. Way cheaper. My Water pax are my emergency supply.

I agree. I am thinking about switching to a dual jerry can mount on my swingout.

Ordered a URD MAF Calibrator a week and a half ago. Hasn't shipped yet. Gadget says they are waiting on connectors.

That's what I get for ordering the plug n play version I guess....
