Pictures tell 1,000,000 words so I'm just going to let them speak for themselves. After 11 years in the Arizona sun they were looking rough and the clear coat was gone on the top half.

The holes are there already, they are for the clips that hold on the stock flare. Hiding them is actually a problem a lot of people face when they want to remove the flares altogether

Ya, after I replied I started searching about flares and saw that, thank you for the reply though! I really like the black flares, what brand did you get and how much did they run you?

I am still running stock, I am interested in changing the flares out myself though

They're the stock ones, I just painted them black and since so many of the clips were broke I mounted them with the screws instead. It was pretty easy to drill the holes, I did it from the back side so I could center them over where the stock tabs were. If you drill from the back it could take a little more to clean up the hole but I just drilled slowly and didn't care if it wasn't super clean as the screw was going to cover it. I'm pretty happy with it all and all for $9 total.

    $4.44 when I purchased them - http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-Bumper-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

    $4.90 when I purchased it - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PIEWLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$19 when I bought them (for an actual roofing project I was doing) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YZCUY78/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The fuel door cover is just a wrap but I'm super happy with how it turned out. Here's what I used:

$9.99 on Amazon prime when I bought it - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FXY5I96/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good for you for the diy, but this honestly looks like you went to the junkyard to replace broken or rusty parts. It reminds me of a plasti dipped hood that now just looks like you couldn't afford to paint a replacement.

I think this is going to sound odd but that's kinda the look I am going for. I don't want people confusing me with people whose trucks are just for show, all function here, $10 on the flares and that leaves me with $200 savings to spend on something that's actually useful.

As a side note, here's the last car I bought before the Tacoma. 1993 Corolla wagon, I bought it completely totaled with 124k for $780, spent $400 on a parts car, took what I needed off of it, sold the rest of that for about $500 and all and all I was into this for $700ish. Drove it for two years then sold it to a friend for $1,000 two years ago. It now has 170 something on it and hasn't had one issue in four years. Are you seeing a theme? I tend to shop values and amazing running vehicles without concern for how they look. I might be silly but I'm driving the thing from the inside so I never understand caring what the thing looks like for other people. IMAG0035.jpg

Hey nothing wrong with that. Everyone mods there truck as they like it. A lot of my mods are similar to every other Tacoma but that's what I like so it's all that matters. Carry on.

All Function? Nothing you did adds to the function of the vehicle.

Why didn't you also paint the gas door, or vinyl wrap the flare so they at least match in color? Is it the car show thing?

Those zinc coated screws are going to rust eventually. I would have used 316 stainless steel screws.

It does add function, no more clear coat flakes on my shirt if I lean on them and the tabs on the inside were broken so no more hanging off the fenders like there were. Think about my other options, 1) no flares 2) repainting my flares 3) goofy looking bushwackers at 25x the price (at least mine look goofy and are cheap) or 4) just deal with the peeling clearcoat.

The sides are going to get scratched to hell offroad so I didn't want to deal with the vinyl getting torn and such (or I would have done the mirrors as well). I did the fuel door just to get a feel for working with the vinyl before doing the entire roof but my first thought was to do the flares also.

If you can get those zinc screws to rust in southern Arizona I'm going to be seriously impressed!

I've done a mod or two
Looks good to me! I don't care what my truck looks like either, it's for wheeling and house work. The funny part is I had my beater polished up before I rolled it and it looked like brand new, there's people wasting money and time on 200k thread count microfiber cloths and special soaps and waxes. Meanwhile in an afternoon I was able to shine up a 22 year old truck that I never once waxed or even really sprayed off, back to a mirror finish.

I figure you may like this based on your other ride, I used to wheel the shit out of this thing. How do you like my custom bumper build? Oh and I added the shine to my head cause I shave the dome and people used to joke about it so I was just being stupid. As you can see, even more not caring (tore the second muffler off on a trail, tossed the bumper and running boards in the trash, total thug life and all completely wax and polish free), wheeling the shit out of the thing instead. I was at Chivo Falls in Tucson here.
