Gonna be running a very similar set up (exactly the same besides with Icons). Where did you order the material for the spacers? I found these on the web and I can just cut them down to the right size easily, if they are the right thing.

Anyone else with experience mating Maxtrac spindles to Total Chaos LT is encouraged to speak up!

I've heard that in theory that works but haven't actually heard from anyone that's done it... I may just spend the extra for the race kit so I don't have to fk with fabbing up those little spacers

Read through a good portion of this enormous thread, and now am brave enough to make a feeble attempt to post...

I am not mechanically inclined by any means, so I am lost in the world of mechanics and need a little guidance.

I just obtained a 2013 Access Cab LB Prerunner 2WD and was looking to get a lift. Many people already pointed toward Marie at HeadStrong, and I have been talking with her about the Maxtrac spindles. My questions abound from there:

    • Can I use my stock suspension, front and rear, and obtain a level look? Or should I think about getting a leaf pack (I see much about Dakars)? Or blocks?
    • If I plan on going the route of Maxtracs (4") - can I use my stock wheels? I'm kind of a minimalist and actually like the stock look. If not, what should I look into? Backspacing? Huh?
    • If I'm looking to use stock suspension, what size tires would be ideal?
    • What should I expect to pay for an install?
I'll start with those - thanks for your patience with my stream of nonsensical questions!

    Welcome!!!

These are all great questions and i asked many of the same along eith MANY more!

You CAN use your stock shocks and coils up front eith the spindles

For the rear, you will want longer shocks to match the height that the Dakars will give you

Im not too sure if your stock wheels will fit or not with the spindle setup...which ones do you have

That being said. My stock TX EDITION wheels worked just fine

I think 285s look great with this lift

You can probably get away with having a mod day with a local member and supply beer and pizza along with anything else to get yall going

Im sure somebody else will chime in here soon

    Keep asking away!

Thanks for the response. I had originally drafted that post as a direct message since I saw you're so active in this thread

Re: My question on my wheels, I have attached an image - I believe they're 16x7's. I would prefer to keep them unless it's wiser to go aftermarket for some reason. I don't know much about backspacing so I was unsure if they would be conducive for what I am trying to do.

Re: Rear setup. Are leafs the way to go, or would blocks suffice? Headstrong has a kit that provides blocks. Thoughts?
Re: Mod day with local member(s). I will begin my search. I am guessing there are quite a few in the Southern California region :fingerscrossed:

I'm not trying to break the bank of this one as the original intent was to get a DCSB, but I couldn't pass up the deal on this access cab. I'm cautious to put too much money into this one because I have the feeling this one will end up as my wife's truck when I grab the one I want in a year or two.

Welcome to TW & don't worry about asking questions, that's how you learn.

    1. Can I use my stock suspension, front and rear, and obtain a level look? Or should I think about getting a leaf pack (I see much about Dakars)? Or blocks?

You can use your stock front suspension but with the spindles it will put your front about 2" higher than the rear so you will need new leaf packs, add a leaf or blocks depending on your budget. Leaf packs being the best but most expensive option.

    2. If I plan on going the route of Maxtracs (4") - can I use my stock wheels? I'm kind of a minimalist and actually like the stock look. If not, what should I look into? Backspacing? Huh?

Wheel requirements are 17" wheels with a max backspace of 4.75. That being said some have run 16" with a shallow backspace. You can run stock wheels but will need wheel spacers to clear.

    3. If I'm looking to use stock suspension, what size tires would be ideal?

As @ChadsPride said 285's will look good.

    4. What should I expect to pay for an install?

Also as @ChadsPride said find some local members that would be willing to help you with the install & feed them pizza & beer. Also that's a good way to learn so get in there & get your hands dirty, it will be appreciated. I've seen people stand back & watch, not cool.

There is a bunch of So-Cal members so you shouldn't have a problem finding help. Find the regional thread, introduce yourself & ask for help.

Small blocks will be ok, I'm sure your looking at the 4/2 kit. 4" up front from the spindles & 2" blocks on the rear. Being that you don't want to break the bank & know you want a different truck in a couple years of say that's a good route.

We did this truck & it has that very kit on it with 285's. Aftermarket wheels obviously.

    Thanks for the insights!

I'll look into wheels I suppose. Whats ideal as far as backspacing goes?

Also, thanks for the picture - that's really helpful!

You're welcome. I'm running 17x9 with 4.5" backspace & I've had no issues. I can post some pics of them with 285's & 35's on them if you'd like.

    Here ya go.

With 285's & spindles but I'm lifted 6", I don't really have any showing how much they stick out.

I know this is a long shot but will the tacoma spindles fit a T4R. 2014. Called Maxtrac and he said it should but not confident site shows different part numbers.

@HeadStrong Off-Road can you get this info. They look very identical.
