Having had a similar experience waiting for an item (not with CBI), it was almost 11 months from when my credit card was run to when I actually received the item I ordered.

I couldn't care less about a 3-4 month lead time, maybe even 5 months but sometimes fabricators are more than happy to take your money and then just drag shit out - that really pisses me off. There is no excuse for that kind of poor customer service in business.

@Pelfreybilt FTW. I had decent lead time, but they let me know it'd take a minute and kept up with my emails. Great service.

Glad you got your money back though man.

Damn Abe, i know you have been sitting on this before your trip to moab but its common for fabs to ignore your order for months to even years back in the early days of tim and elite offroad and not start a project. However, I remembered you stating your conversation with cbi on the phone and how they lacked any sympathy in making things right. If they failed to apologize, they really failed on the customer satisfaction score card. All the vendors on my truck had few delays, nothing more than a few days- a week but they always apologized and made things right with me asap.

Hopefully you get a peaceful resolution

I have skids and steps from RCI off-road. Not one miscommunication issue.

FWIW, Pelfreybilt has gone above and beyond my expectations for customer service and communication. They have a stellar reputation for extremely accurate lead times for both production and shipping. Something to consider.

Funny story. Prinsu got bought up by CBI. My customer service experience with Prinsu was so bad, when people ask about my roof rack I tell them it's a Frontrunner. :)

Well, considering that prinsu is merely a brand which is now owned by, sold by, and fulfilled by CBI, that makes the Prinsu brand one in the same and fair game for this roast. :bananadead:

The fact is that most of these fab shops do great work and are at the top of their game with respect to design and build quality. That's what they are good at. They (not all) are not typically good at other aspects of "business", like customer support and communication or time management and scheduling. You just have to swallow the pill and understand that it may take WAY longer to get your stuff.

I agree that they are more craftsmen than businessmen. But I think the issue here is a basic level of respect for the customer. If you're going to take a long time to deliver a high quality product, that's fine. I think you just have to be up front about it and not ignore the customer's emails or give them the run around. They have to understand that our hard earned money is putting food on their table. Some people get big and forget the people who supported them.

I think that Pelfrey has done it right. They have a great balance between crafting high quality products and running a business that allows consumers to walk away with a good experience.
