Pick up trucks.com just did a full shoot out of the ZR2 two versus the TRD pro. come on guys we all know that drums are not as good as disc brakes period. It's physics , it's math , it's common sense follow every other motorcycle and or auto manufacturer.

    http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2017/07/2017-chevrolet-colorado-zr2-vs-2017-toyota-tacoma-trd-pro.html

    Braking
    Winner: Colorado ZR2

We both had big issues with the TRD Pro's brakes, which were twitchy to the point of being difficult to use. During our step test to check the articulation of both trucks, it was challenging to get the TRD Pro to crawl up the steps. The engine wouldn't step it up slowly and just grazing the brake would bring things to an immediate shuddering halt. Williams also noted that the brakes felt even worse in low range, having to overcome the added gear reduction. What's more, even in TRD Pro trim, the Tacoma still uses rear drum brakes.

In some ways, the ZR2 won this category by simply not being as bad as the TRD Pro. But it went beyond that — the ZR2 provided predictable, progressive pedal feel and linear stopping power in a variety of situations, which made it easier to stop more smoothly and confidently.

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
I would not dispute on a road course or pulling a heavy trailer that drums are as good as disc but for everyday driving where excessive heat is not an issue I don't think there is a whole lot of difference.

I drive my Pro everyday and have never thought that the brakes were any different than any other car I have ever owned.

Yes I think Toyota took the cheap route on this one and would prefer disc because I like the looks of them better.

Drum brakes suck, I'm older than you guys and had plenty of vehicles with drum brakes they suck. Would you buy a motorcycle with drum brakes ? No ! would you buy a bike with drum brakes ? No ! can you by any other modern car with drum brakes ? No ! Only Tacoma fanboys love drum brakes.

Add water , And see what happens. Drum brakes do not work when they get wet. That's why they suck off road and always have. Old trucks used to have front drum brakes on the 4 x 4's and they would never work. I know my uncle had a 1975 Ford F-250 4x4 all 4 drum brakes . Go through a big puddle or water crossing and you could never ever stop that truck.

You lost me at PUTC. I'm not sure that website could be any worse. Maybe my rear drums are special but I have no issues with them. Sure, we all call BS on the rear drum reasoning and I would prefer discs too, but mine are fine.

Toyota is a little slow with their release on the build-outs. Orders were accepted on 8/1 for 2018 but build options haven't been updated yet.

Lol, good job on proving that you're quick to take offense.

Maybe provide some practical responses and criticism to when someone doesn't agree with you rather than being just a huge douche bag to other members.

Chill out and maybe smoke a blunt sometime.

Not sure I saw someone answer this.

The OR have unpainted flares, and chrome rear bumper because of rock chips/scratches when off roading. The flares in their current state on the OR aren't as susceptible to scratches or chips due to off roading and the chrome rear bumper holds up a little better in the same conditions than a painted bumper.

Also on the subject of drums, Toyota did this to help keep dirt/sand out of the brakes when in off road conditions. Their main thing on the Tacoma OR was their crawl control and digging into sand/dirt and allowing the truck to get out and with the drums in the rear being a closed unit, gives you better braking performance in certain off road conditions. Disk brakes are better overall street driving but they were looking at optimizing certain off road conditions. I dont like drums but I get what Toyota was trying to do. They just didnt put the drums on the OR with crawl control also because its easier production to use most of the same parts across the whole line.

I don't buy the Off Road Drum thing for a second, Toyota has the Landcruiser, 4 Runner, FJ and thay have rear discs, we have them because of cost cutting bean counters. I believe the 4 Runner had Crawl Control before the Tacoma did also.

Is there any word on leather seats in the regular TRD's (sport/OR)?

I'd argue drums do NOT have a place on a $35-40k+ truck. lol

I kind of agree, they gave the overall win to the Tacoma and I clearly thought the ZR2 was the winner.

Actually I think they gave the overall win to the ZR2 despite the Tacoma winning 4 categories to 2 for the ZR2 with 2 ties. PUTC has been a fanboy cesspool for far too long. That's sad to see because they used to be somewhat legit. They have long been Chevy lovers whereas Outsideonline loves Toyota.

    You ca
You can argue that. An I'd tend to agree. But don't try and tell me you can't tow because it has drum brakes. That's just nonsense. I've got a friend, member of this forum too, that tows a trailer almost all the time with his. Off road too. Right now he's on a trip to Canada. Pulling his trailer the whole way. So, ya. Some people are just gonna whine about everything. Some people, like the cant tow with drumbrakes guy, are just weak. I don't have time for them other than to laugh at them.

Either standard or optional on the TRDs now from what some have posted earlier.
