What's the chatter on the 2018's?

They say this but most of the best off road vehicles including the overseas Landcruisers have disc. Disc is better but Toyota is known to stick with what works. Then again, I have never hit my brakes and cursed those rear drums for not stopping me fast enough. They also last longer.

Yes, they should be disc and could be but they are not. When I hear spokesperson I think marketing and when I think that I think BS. Good CRAWL demo.

 

I agree the truck stops fine, it's just kind of, well embarrassing, on an expensive vehicle in 2017, to still have drum brakes. Most $17k econo sub-compacts don't even have drums anymore. Before I got into Tacomas (right before I bought mine), I didn't know any modern vehicles were still even running them. lol

 

I agree that disc is better overall, but personally I have had the issue with small rocks getting jammed between the rotor and pad causing a horrible squeaking/grinding noise and also had 1 brake pad and rotor damaged due to a rock so I get why Toyota did what they did.

 

Hmm, leather option on a TRD sport could get me trading mine in for a new one.

My next question is will there actually be color options on the leather. lol

 

Knowing Toyota, baby shit yellow for leather and beautiful black cloth with diamond stitching on all other models.

 

Yes I am well aware of what Seat belt Mike said, maybe we should ask them to "Upgrade" the 4 Runner and Landcruiser to rear drums so they will be better off road. Sooner or later they will give the Tacoma rear discs and then they will be running tests telling us how superior they are.

 

Or that weird brown color in the Limited.

Never said drums were an upgrade. I was simply posting what Toyota was stating why they put drums in the rear and that I understand why they did because I have personally had issues with rocks getting jammed in the discs and causing the annoying squeaking/grinding and also had 1 rotor and pad damaged due to a rock being jammed.

Do I like drums? No but again I understand what they were trying to accomplish with the TACOMA.

Yeah I wasn't trying to argue with you Bro, was just pointing out Toyotas inconsistencies with them using Rear Discs on other Off Road Vehicles and Drums on the Tacoma.

well to bad Toyota as a company just likes to make cheep trucks and sell them for a high dollar.
my frame on my 06 rusted through in 9 years
one day I would like to see Toyota step up to the plate and build a nice stiff fully boxed frame and compliment it with good articulating suspension, rear disc would be cool too. but until Toyota starts buying back the rusty trucks I have no faith in them as a consumer.

I could keep searching and will probably find range rover, 4runner, tacoma, tundra, all with the same complaints.

It happens when off roading or heck, even driving in normal conditions it can happen.

Also the 4runner had drums from 96-02.

Sometimes old technology is better in certain conditions. Crawl control uses the brakes and I think Toyota was trying to improve crawl control over the previous models that had it. I personally think crawl control is useless and I also agree Toyota needs to be more consistent with their options and standard features across their whole line of vehicles.

 

I seriously doubt standard.

 

I agree with the crawl control. I get it and the concept . Id rather them do like the ZR2 and give us front and rear lockers and forget crawl control.
