hey just a note for anyone asking... i had this question recently:

will a standard automated car wash mess up your derp on the pinch weld?

no! i went through it a couple days ago and my derp is untouched. which made me really happy.

Anyone have some tips for PlastiDipping their pinch weld? Will be my first time using the stuff.

 

yeah i just did it followed by a 2500mi road trip through the Rockies with trail riding and a car wash (see above). it held perfectly.

i tried masking and spraying and that sucked. so i did it over with Plastidip liquid and painted it on after a little masking. i used a whole can of it for both sides with probably 5 or 6 coats. great results and would do again!

some say to sit your pdip can in some warm water to keep it from drying while you paint.

What is that and why plasti dip it and where is it?

 

it's the bottom of the painted panels. two panels are "pinched" and welded together. it's painted so it's weather resistant, but it's also considered ugly af so that's where the plastidip comes in. if you get it black like all the undercarriage then you get aesthetically clean lines at the bottom of the body, and nice contrast with the black undercarriage/frame etc.

I tried and tried and everyti.e I'd get like 3 or 4 pins out and move on to next they'd snap back in.lol

So just taped it off and sprayed it.


Also just gone done with my rims. Forgot to take pics during will take some once done. But I think I messed up. Cards wouldn't fit between the rim and wheel so just sprayed the tire. Peeled off when was wet on last coat but one tire I guess was closer or something and it peeled a little off the rim.

Also last can of black sprayed really weird so have some really odd texturing. Even put cans in warm water. For whatever reason didn't help with that last can. I think was defective can or something one of the blazing blues I had for dash did same thing.

 

It was definitely a pain in the ass but once I got a few started,it was easier. One thing that helped was pulling down on the tab and pushing on it. It seemed a little easier that way. Anyway, I got it all sprayed down and installed. Now it sits to cure for 24 hours.

I'll probably order a TRD chrome grill badge to mount next.

 

Yeah I tried that but I just couldn't get more then 3 or 4 pins at a time.

Here are my rims done just drying now. Will remove bags from behind in a few.

8 coats, lugs covered in tape during spray. Temp was about 74 degrees out, no need to warm can. I did wipe off the nozzle after each coat though.

I have been considering doing my hood in flat black.
Where do you get the wrap? (the idea of wrapping the truck is totally new to me)

Thanks! They're holding up really well. I've hit some trails as well as had it power washed multiple times, and it's still looking as good as they did on day 1
