I have this boy hanging around. This is about 125 yards from my house. I tell people that I have to figure out a way to tie him up.PICT0247.jpg

I need a second camera, at least.

Probably get another Stealth, same as what I have now.
Also, I need to get on the program of clearing the logging road so I can drive in closer to where I'll have my stand. It's close to a mile or more on foot walking with taking terrain changes into account

Here are a few of them. Zoomed in with my iPhone from the road. Can't tell much, but 3 bucks are in this pic.

We planted a food plot for a dove field this year, so I'm sure we have some deer in it...haven't set the camera out yet though b/c I'm lazy

Such a different world out here in the west. We put in at least 15 miles a day, going up and down mountains, spotting and stalking.

I wish I had that option....

I grew up in S.E. Alaska rifle hunting black tail deer up and down mountain ranges. I miss glassing areas for any movement and making a plan.

However, bow hunting whitetail is a different situation. You have to get close (in comparison to rifle hunting) to get a lethal shot on the animal. In addition, you are working in much smaller areas, usually with outside pressure, so even though you are getting consistent pictures of the deer, doesn't necessarily you mean your dialed in. Coyotes can come in, trespassers or some kind of outside element can throw the deer's pattern off. The older the buck, the more wiser they get, so its a chess game with them.

I've been doing it since I moved here to MI and I still haven't figured it out fully haha!

Yeah, bow hunting is HARD! I got my first bow a few years ago and have yet to down one with it. When I do bow hunt, I take my .270 with me just in case a trophy walks out though lol.

I dont blame you for taking the .270. Since I started bow hunting (5 years now) I have only taken does, I've seen so many good bucks while bow hunting at 60-80yds. Of course, they would disappear soon as rifle season started. But I love it, its all apart of the challenge.

I'll see if I can find the trail cam picture of the biggest buck I've ever seen in my life. I was chasing him from OCT- DEC, then he just disappeared. Not really sure what happened to him, either neighbors got him or hit by a car....or something else, fantastic buck!

I wish! He disappeared sometime in December. Neighboring properties haven't seen him either.

I assume you also don't buy a license or tags, hunt on private property, and process your own deer then?

At no point during bow season only dates, here, can you possess any firearm on your person other than a concealed carry firearm. And that firearm, be it a shotgun or rifle or pistol, can be used to harvest a deer.

Good job making assumptions, but I don't break any laws. We have 1 month of bow-only season here and I don't carry a gun (besides a pistol) then. After gun season opens, I take my bow and my rifle because I'm not going to miss a monster because he was 100 yds out. And for the record, I do buy licenses, I hunt on family land, and I do process my own deer.

Same here. Bow season means no "orange army" shenanigans in Illinois.

Alright Alright.....now that we got that out of the way, lets talk favorite bow releases. I have had a wrist strap trigger release since I started, but I've been toying with my friend's three finger-thumb release. I kind of want one. I'm also a fan of John Dudley and watch all of his youtube videos, so I'm also looking at his Nock 2 it release. You guys?

Yep, you can bow hunt all season in Ga, but it's only a month of bow only. Then a week of primitive weapon only. Then mid Oct-Jan is gun season. After now season is over, I leave mine at home. Don't feel like carrying a bow and a gun with me.

Last year was the first time I've really bow hunted hard. It's just so hot in September, and I hate hot weather. With a passion. I drew on 2 does last year. Shot at one and missed. I didn't have a range finder on me. Guesstimated 60 yards, and when I stepped it off trying to find my arrow, she was right at 65.

Since I'm on my first bow, I've only ever used a wrist strap and I like it. My bow is a used Bowtech Tomkat lefty I picked up for like $250 4-5 years ago. I've shot friends' high dollar bows and I'm just too new to it to tell the difference, so I'm just going to stick with it until I need to upgrade.

I'm still pining for a new Bear take down. Just have to decide which riser I want since I know I'll end up with both sets of limbs.
