Best Exhaust for 2001 4 Cylinder

A while back I was focused on getting a new exhaust for my truck (solely for the sound). However, I had just bought my lift and new tires/wheels so I didn't have enough money to follow through with the exhaust. Now that I've saved up some more money, I'm back to the exhaust.

My truck is a 2001 4 cylinder 5 speed. So, what would be the best sounding exhaust I could get without busting the bank? I would prefer to have a moderately loud sound (no ear damage) with the least amount of ricey sound as possible.

Before I gave up on the idea the first time, I was considering this one.

I have a flowmaster delta 50 on mine and it is moderately loud but not ricey. I had a dynomax super turbo before that and it was definitely quieter than the flowmaster.

 

Check out Gibson exhausts as well. I built my own 2.5" exhaust and used a Gibson muffler and I like it. It's pretty mellow. From in the cab, it doesn't sound much louder than when it was stock.

I'm not too worried about how loud it is from within the cab. I have 2 12-inch subwoofers to block out the noise lol.

 

While you're at it you might as well throw on some headers

 

Can you teach me a little about headers? I'm not too knowledgeable about this stuff.

 

If you're not planning on any performance mods they might be a waste of money, but they will be easier to work on if you keep the truck for the long run and get stainless and will sound better too They allow more air volume to flow through the engine by smoothing out the flow of exhaust. They usually compliment a super charger or some other performance mods nicely, but with an afe drop in filter in your air box it will make the engine a little more responsive (from what I've read about the 2.7 LCE headers), but not really any extra power.

I have a nice magnaflow muffler I just took off because I'm re-gearing and will be running much higher RPM. Got it from LCE engineering 5,000 miles ago. Sounded great on my 4cyl. It's the one that comes with there pro flow exhaust sustem. Pm me if your interested.

 

Best exhaust is one attached to a turbo.

 

I did a muffler only system last month using a Black widow venom 250 muffler. http://www.blackwidowexhaust.com/mu...nter-SKU-BW001-C/p/35648298/category=15730041 They are worth looking into.

I previously had a flowmaster series 50 muffler 1in/2out running split exhaust that came out of the back of the truck. I loved that system and the sound but it rusted and I needed to make another exhaust. I got my exhaust built earlier this month using a Black widow 2.5" Venom 250 muffler and i already have a aFe Stage-2 Si Pro 5R Cold Air Intake System Dry filter installed. With the old exhaust I noticed that after 3k rpm you would loose the sound of the muffler because the intake sound would take over. After having the new exhaust for about a month now the biggest thing that I noticed is a pretty consistant power band and also engine sound. There is no drop of one sound for another. As the RPMs get higher the whole engine system sounds strong and happy.


Since my old system had rusted I also needed to get stainless steel run for the exhaust system but it follows the factory run.

I really like the sound of the Venom 250 on my truck. The initial firing up sound is aggressive and loud enough but doesn't scare small children. It was 11F this morning while starting the truck in the video. With that said, your neighbors will definitely know when you have started your truck because the exhaust note travels inside the house easily. Just under normal idle while sitting at a light or in a drive through you wont notice it to much, but once you get on the throttle you and everyone around you will hear it. Getting onto the highway or passing anyone puts a smile on my face each and every time.

The biggest thing that I noticed with this muffler compared to the last system that was on my truck is how much "quieter" the Black widow muffler sounds inside the cab compared to outside the truck, It doesn't sound annoying or overly loud. It has some hum at 1500 rpm, so going 35 down the road you might have a little hum but not annoying drone. At 2k RPM while doing 70mph the exhaust is comfortably quiet and easy to drive, but once you bring the motor up to 3200 RPM she stops sounding like a Tacoma and makes me smile. The company Black widow is worth looking into to for sure.
