This. Usually right after I fill up, I get like 8-10mpgs then it goes up. In the cold it's been down to 6mpg before. Currently I just got 20 mpg going over a mountain pass, nothing to really worry about.

Do you leave it idling with AC on for long periods of time?.

But bruh you gotta be the first one off the light so you're the first one to the next red! :p

I'm honestly starting to believe that my 4 banger is on par with the V6 speed-wise based on all these complaints. Wouldn't that be a giggle.

It's got 4.3 gears stock, but I have not engaged ECT in a long time and the truck picks up exactly as well as I need it to pick up, and I have no trouble getting to merging speed on the highway without flooring it. Of course, I jam out in the right lane because you really gotta bury your foot a lot further to hit that 75 MPH or higher vs 65-ish. Hence why I'm pulling about ~21 overall MPG so far.

Up in the mountains on steep grades it does get a little weak but I feel like that's a battle versus gearing more so than any power deficit. 6th is basically useless unless you are going downhill because it's a fracking .58 overdrive, 5th is what 6th should have been, and the gap between 3 and 4 is the difference between "losing speed on this grade" and "SCREAMING ALONG AT 5K ACCELERATING BRISKLY" so there's no good gear to hold.

That's more reasonable. Lesson here: Ignore what the trip computers say, they are notorious for being inaccurate across pretty much all cars. Measure your MPG the old school way by using your phone's calculator at the pump.

My trip computer said 16.6....I filled up today and did a hand calculation, it was....wait for it....wait for it...16.6! My experience in the past has been similar to yours with trip computers, but this one has been pretty accurate so far (1200 miles).

I avarage about 18-19mpg driving in consistent temps over 110.

The computer calculated mileage is actually very accurate, aside from the first couple of miles after the fuel level changes.

City driving and your driving habits are probably the root cause.

Keep an eye on it. Try to be as gentle as you can with acceleration and if it doesn't change, or the results change drastically with the temp, take it in.

It was 104-105 here last weekend and I didn't observe any significant change in mileage

My truck's fuel economy improves in hot weather, Takes less time for everything to warm up.

Driving 15 miles isn't far enough to get an accurate reading. My Tacoma is an 07 and does not have the display, but I also have a Honda and F-150 in the driveway that does. If given enough miles the truck is extremely accurate. In the 25,000 miles I've driven it the computer calculations have never been off by more than 1/2 mpg compared to hand calculations. Usually .2 or .3 mpg and they are low as often as high. But over some short sections of road I've seen mileage in single digits and once got 36 mpg over a 30 mile section. It was all down hill right after a fill up. I rarely hand calculate it anymore but did yesterday. Truck said 17.8, I got 17.9 by hand.

The Honda however is consistently 3 mpg optimistic. It'll often show 38-41 mpg, but when hand calculated will actually be 35-38 mpg. Since my Tacoma is older and does not have this technology I can't comment on how accurate they may be.

Did you look at the actual trip mpg when turning the truck off and that screen pops up showing the trip time miles and mpg?

I honestly think that maybe wrong. I drove from the grape vine through Bakersfield, CA to Fresno, CA which averaged 108 in temp and still managed 21 mpg with 4 adults and a bed full of hand bags and a small bed style mat. Also to add the massive elevation and hill climbing range of the grape vine(long pass from LA to Bakersfield) . Total trip mpg was 21.

*edit* forgot to mention it was my first real road trip with my taco from bay area, CA to LA and back. Used 91 pump gas along with Lucas oil UCL if that made any difference, still think the reading was wrong on the average of your tank vs your trip *

I did a manual calc after refill, and everyone was basically on point; the trip computer is inaccurate for short trips. The temperature apparently didn't have much of an effect on the gas mileage for me, the truck just needed to go on a longer trip for the computer to better calculate.
