New to the forum but I've been trolling for a while before I joined. Just picked up a new DCOR in Magnetic Grey. Here is the lift I'm planning but want some input on the finer details. I'm not planning on a front bumper so 600# springs should be fine. The rear will be empty 95% of the time with normal camping gear the other 5%.

Front: Kings 25001-119-A-E with Camburg uniball UCA's
Rear: Kings 25001-121-A-E with Deaver J66 leaf Pack.
    Wheels/Tires: Method Standard 17x8.5 0 offset 4.75 backspacing BFG KO2 285's

My questions is if there is a better choice for the leaf pack or if there should be anything else done such with the shackles etc to gain additional travel in the rear.

Otherwise does this all sound like a good combo that will sit level and give a 2.5" lift or so?

    Thanks

You can check out my build I went King 2.5 but did not know I could get extended. What you have should be nice. If you want more travel in the rear go with the 12" King 2.0 Smoothies and shock relocate. That will be the best to gain more travel. In retrospect I would have done that and may do it down the line.

Some folks may chime in about shackles but unless your doing some rock crawling prob not needed.

Do you plan to put sliders, skids or any protection on? I went with 650# as I was not sure what I was going to do in regards to that and bumpers etc. Gave me a bit of each if i went heavy or not. I will be bumping up to 700# at some point.

My only advice is that the 600# may be too squishy for your liking. I have 600# on my extended Kings, and I will be bumping up to 700# when I get the chance (but I'm also planning on a bumper one day).

The guy I talked to at King said the 600# was intended/setup for the 2nd Gen Taco, and the 3rd Gen is like 120lbs heavier in the front or something. I adjusted my Kings to about 3" of lift to get a little more firmness from the springs.

Either way, that setup you have listed will be BADASS. No need for more travel in the rear, I have plenty for rock crawling and you'll have more than me I think.

I do plan on going with sliders at a minimum...possibly some skids down the road. Im good going with the 650# if those few extras it make it worth while.

Maybe Ill just stick with the J66 then. Overall that setup seems good though?

never ran Deaver but a lot of people like them. You will like the setup. If you want more articulation/travel in the year look into the 12" setup. Aside from that its a nice setup.

Well I think Im convinced on the 650# springs. I haven't heard much about the Deavers lately, everyone seems to be going other directions in the rear.

Everyone has their own reasons. Deavers are nice but when I was looking around they were $$$$. Not a bad setup. I went with Dakar rears.

I went with Dakar rears too, for the same reason. They're about half the cost ($350 vs $750).

ha exactly. A few folks I knew were pushing Deavers hard but total cost of the setup I went with Dakars and everyone seemed to also like them.

Can't go wrong just depends on what your doing. You will be fine with 650# especially if you are adding some stuff down the line.

The only thing is that the DownSouth website says those Kings wont work with the Dakar packs. Not sure why.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect... might wanna click around and see if you find someone running that setup because I'm sure there are more than a few. When I hit the lottery I'm replacing my rear shocks with the ones you want.

Maybe its a 3rd gen thing. Give them a call as I think they also have there own spec for these but plenty of people run kings and dakars. Are you looking at the right Dakar packs? =) Give them a call they will help you out.

Most places don't recommend them. Different story on the 1st gen Tacomas though

Up to you. I have one on mine but a lot of people do not run them. Some people recommend it closer to 3". I just installed skids and left it on as it fit. I have had no issues. I would get driveline spacers to help with any vibrations

The Deavers J66 don't have an overload leaf and as such they won't handle any weight

This there another Deaver I should look at that could handle at least a little weight for the times I do add a load? The U402 option seems to work best with a constant 300-440lb load which I don't see that happening and I would rather not have the stiffer suspension when it's unloaded.

Also, the J66 says it's a 1.5"lift while the Dakar is a 2" lift. I'm thinking I may go with the Dakar. now

Have you considered the Icon rear Tacoma leaf pack?

I like it because it comes with an extra leaf that you can configure to give you the ride height you want.

And I agree that Deavers aren't a great solution if you change weight frequently. They work well because they're soft, which is great for going fast, but might not be the best for overlanding.
