Pioneer Mono-Amp Subwoofer Wiring Question

So a buddy and I installed a Pioneer shallow mount 10" subwoofer model TS-SW2502S4 and I used the Pioneer GM-D8601 mono amp to power it.

My question is on the wiring. The diagram shows a different wiring path than how my buddy hooked it up. Ive been running it for about 4-5 months now with no problems but I have always been curious if I was losing power to the sub or if it was maybe doing something else. Or is it ok this way and doesnt make a difference?

So..the amp manual shows this:

You can see for one sub its wired to neg/pos just on one side. Mine is currently wired to negative on one side and positive on the other...

 

that just means he bridged your amp which is probably what you want, depends on what ohm is the sub you have?

***Edit*** looked up your amp specs and it says bridged power for a continuous 4ohms...which is what you want since your sub is 4ohms

 

also just a side note most people make this mistake...look under your hood and the fuse that is on your power wire from the battery to the amp should be 80amps (just add the fuses on the amp together 40A+ 40A) I know if you used a wiring kit a lot of times they come with a 100A fuse which would be to big and the fuses on the amp itself would blow first...which is no Bueno theoretically

Im good on the fuse I put in a larger fuse dont remember if it was 80 or 100. My buddy is pretty good at this stuff but if it was me I would have just followed the diagram. So you think its bridged which gives it more watts?

See I was confused by this as well...the actual Pioneer box and Pioneer themselves list this as a mono amp so I figured mono amp :/

I'm over in north Phoenix I appreciate the offer I would most likely pull my seat out to get at the amp and just swap the wires to how the diagram shows. If its not hurting anything I will just leave it.

 

I looked at the specs and its a mono....but yeah you don't want the fuse to be larger than the total fuse size on the amp, should be the same. he bridged it, which is what you want so the amp is pushing at the same ohms as the sub.

 

He set you up right in easy terms.....you can tweak gain settings or bass boost on the amp itself or get a remote bass knob to make easy adjustments, your headunit should have settings to adjust to fine tune everything

 

Hmmm I will need to go take a peek at the fuse now lol. I really appreciate the info sounds like Im good to go as far as the wiring goes

 

Is the picture you posted identical to what your amp looks like.....sorry was trying to open the owners manual but for some reason my computer isn't allowing me to. and on the pioneer site it only shows the pic of the other side of your amp where the rca jacks are

 

GMD8601 is mono block. Nothing to bridge. Both negative terminals are joined inside amp. Both positive terminals are joined inside amp. Doesn't matter which positive or which negative you use. As long as your speaker load is between 1 ohm and 8 ohms you are good.

 

Ok so I currently have a 100A fuse and will pick up a 80A fuse and swap them out.

 

Oh ya thats the exact amp on Amazon shows both sides of the amp

Fuse at battery is to protect the wire. Fuse at amp is to protect amp. Fuse at battery CAN be larger than the one at the amp. Fuse at battery should be at least the size of the fuse at the amp. Can be larger but not smaller.
