yea, i play in the local orchestra I'm the concertmaster, and i am also concertmaster occasionally at the national youth orchestra, for an 11 year old?? well i started at 10, requires a lot of discipline, and long hours of study

at first is hard, because you don't get to play or sound good enough so it can be very frustrating, but with practice and study you begin to enjoy your sound and playing and improving every techincal aspect... tell him to go for it, encourage him, its very cool, not only that it helps you focus in other areas of life, for me its just a semi pro hobby, but it has helped me in lots of aspects....

Wow, that's impressive! Yeah, I'm definately about encouraging him. Alot of times he lacks motivation and concentration. We'll see how it pans out.

well its a good sign already that he wants to learn, maybe you wont have to force it on him... if it grows in him he will want to do it for the rest of his life, maybe just as a hobby or whatever but it stays with you

Well, he definately enjoys music and all the string insturaments fit very well into all of the major genres. Some of my favorite bands have had some awesome songs with string arrangements. Well Ed, the wife begs for my presence. Have a good night.:)
