If you don't like the charging time or if the USB isn't working for your phone, check out the Anker Quick Charge 2.0 36W Dual USB Charger. I have one for my Tacoma and I love it. Charges my iPhone 6S very quickly and has two USB ports. It's on sale right now at Amazon.com for $16.99. I bought mine for $19.99 a year ago!

When traveling enough that I need a charge I use a plug in 12v outlet USB. The Anker mentioned looks interesting. I also have an Anker portable battery pack (~$40) that will recharge a phone/pad about 5 times. Use it on overseas flights.

Or I put in my portable inverter, which has a USB outlet and 2 -110 outlets, allowing my adaptive charger to work in about 45 minutes.

I dont think so man, my phone charges when I plug it in. It may be a trickle charge vs direct from a house outlet, but it charges.

    Hey,

I did not read all the comments so sorry if this has already been acknowledged, or more likely, off topic.

When I charge my phone in my cigarette lighter outlet, my radio gets static... weird.. and probably unrelated...

On my 13 the built in USB kept my iPhone 5s charged even while using it for Waze and tethered for Internet while traveling. I drove from Florida to Ohio and the phone stayed 100% charged the whole trip. So yes, it will charge and seemed to maintain charge with some moderate continuous draw.

I have installed an always-on 12v socket in the center console for charging stuff and for running an inverter off of. I ran an 8ga wire pair direct from battery (fused of course).

    holy balls everyone

where in the manual does it state the usb port on a 2013 is for charging devices ?

it only provided enough current to power a usb device to send data,
like a flash drive for music.

it can charge devices yes, but at extremely low current, and many devices
won't charge from it because it is below cutoff.

so for this little list below

TRD-OR - USB charges my phone
    TRD-OR - USB Doesn't charge my phone

Radio has Nav - USB charges my phone
Radio is basic - USB charges my phon

The post previous to this one is also my picture as well. I have 4 USB ports in total, including the OEM one. You can find them in ebay for cheap and looks OEM.

FWIW - I use my old iPhone 3 for an ipod as it has a lot of memory. The USB will maintain a charge but not charge it, ie if it is at 40% it works fine for an 8 hour drive but is still at 40% at the end. Get a separate charger cable or a round to usb adapter and connect via blue tooth if you can.
