Took a load of scrap to the junk yard and came back with this. The guy that dropped it off drove it there and said he just didnt want it anymore. We got it for $350 and drove it home that day. It has a couple misfire codes, needs tires, and shocks/struts. It has 200,000 on the 3.4 and minimal rust for NY. Hopefully the misfire codes are an easy fix, should make a good 1st vehicle for my brother.

Should be fun, got the new plugs and wires ordered so hopefully that takes care of the misfire.

We are still getting a p0300 code. Changed the plugs and wires. Changed a fuel filter. It runs good for about 10 minutes but once it warms up it has a slight skip. It also came up with p0001 which from what I can tell shouldn't show up in a toyota.

That's what I was thinking but I saw somewhere else someone had that issue and they had a p0301-6 so they knew what injector it was.

Tried a different scanner, I think this narrows it down a little more than just a p0300 code.

Actually, just clear the codes, drive it til you get the CEL and see if you get the same cylinders...then further diagnose

Well i got a new coil just to test that side of the issue. It seems odd that 2 injectors would fail at the same time. It also only skips once it warms up. Not sure if its a sensor or what. The fuel injectors look like a pain to pull so i was trying to hold off as long as i could to mess with them. I did get a p0171 code too

found this post from another site...dont want to post a link to a competing site, so did a ctrl-c ctrl-v...you may have seen this already:

Below is a straight copy/paste of diagnostic procedures in fairly basic terms with limited tools. From Identifix/IATN. The numbers next to different items at the bottom show the number of technicians reporting to have fixed this code with each of the following parts. The vast majority (including my own vehicle) of these I've seen are simply due to a dirty MAF sensor and can be easily resolved with cleaning. I have seen many many people clean them incorrectly thinking mistaking the intake air temp posts for the MAF heater wires. What brand MAF sensor did you replace with... wouldn't be the first time I've seen the code return due to an inferior part. Also on you emissions tag under the hood is it listed as Federal or California Emissions? If it is a California vehicle its a bit of a different approach. Let me know if you need anything or have any further questions and we'll try to get it worked out.

    Customer Concern:
Has a check engine light on and a code P0171.

    Tests/Procedures:
    1. Monitor the fuel trim readings at idle and at 55 MPH driving down the road. If the numbers are low at idle but climb on a part throttle cruise, the airflow meter could be reading low or it may also have low fuel pressure. The mass air flow sensor grams per second should be 3.3-4.7 at idle and 12.9-18.3 at 2500 RPMs no load, if the readings are low the sensor could be bad.

    2. Monitor the calculated load reading on a wide-open throttle acceleration. The reading should go to 85% or more. If not, then the airflow meter could be faulty.

    3. Monitor the oxygen sensor inputs, both front and rear oxygen sensor signals. The oxygen sensor should not stay high or low voltage for extended periods of time. If the oxygen sensor shows low voltage and the fuel trim readings climb, check the performance of the oxygen sensor.

    4. Check the vehicle for a vacuum leak by spraying carburetor spray around the intake manifold while watching the fuel trim readings. If the readings change, there is a vacuum leak.
    Tech Tips:
If fuel trim readings are high at idle and go down on a free rev, there is a vacuum leak. If the fuel trim readings are high at idle and at cruise, suspect fuel injectors.

There is said to be 2 sets of wires in the maf, the obvious set and another set way deep inside...tough to see them.

Nice find! It's crazy what people just dispose of these days. I use to have a rollback and I had ads online & in local papers advertising that I buy junk vehicles. It's unbelievable the vehicles that people wanted hauled off for scrap value. I'm a auto tech and I still come across nice vehicles for cheap that need repairs. My 04 taco TRD i bought for $500 with a seized 3.4, po wanted to junk it. I've sold numerous t4r's over the past couple years. I sold 2 recently to a fellow TW member.

You aren't kidding, I have a fleet of 90s Polaris snowmobiles that were "no good". Nice truck btw, twins!

I have 2 lunar mist 04 TRD's. The stock one I bought from a member here on TW for $600. It had 2 rusted areas on the pass side framerail and it has high miles. Another TW member I know cut out & welded in new metal for me. Pic of it with one of my triple locked 80's & one of my runners. I have bit of a addiction.

I didnt get quit the deal you guys did, but i bought my 01 5 years ago with 112,000 miles on it for $5500. Thought that was a steal because a dealer near by had the same truck for $10,500. Only difference is my truck had a brand new frame when i bought it.
