Just ran up to the LL Bean Flagship store (they have a fantastic fly shop) and picked up a couple of Anglers Image slim nymph boxes. About as thick as a spool of tippet. Nice to slip into shirt or jacket pockets! Oh - and they were 50% off the regular price of $11.95 each.

I'm loving these things! Seriously considering more. I think I could use one for small dry flies too.

Oh - and I've not looked at fly boxes in years, but I'm really liking that triangle/slit layout that seems to be in all boxes now. May need to upgrade others.

I use similar ones and love them! Mine are divided into nymphs, dries, wets, etc. for each box.

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
I stared to buy a bunch of those boxes, but went in the opposite direction. I went from 6-7 boxes down to two. I'll grab and post pics tomorrow. Two thick boxes with a center piece. Each holds a lot of flies.

Prior to my current fly box arrangements, I went back & forth over the years. I'd have multiple boxes, then say to myself "wtf do I have so many of these?". I'd then consolidate into a couple bigger ones. Then at certain times of the year and/or certain fishing conditions I'd say "why do I have all these flies & big boxes when I'm only using a tiny fraction?". I'd then go back to more/smaller boxes...haha. Keeps the fly box companies in business.

What I have now works great.

    Big double box for dries
Big double box for big streamers
Small double box for small streamers
Small double box for soft hackles & muddlers
Small single box for Wooly Buggers
Medium single box for big zonkers, etc
2 small divider type Plano boxes for bass streamers & poppers
And now two of those slim boxes for nymphs

I think that's all of them.

I've never needed all at once and I can just grab & go as needed. Worst case, they all fit in my Orvis Guide Sling pack.

What I really like is going minimalist and putting a box or two in shirt pocket or wader pouch, couple spools of tippet....BAM!

The funny part is that I probably only use less than a dozen patterns (from the above) on a regular basis.

Somehow I manage to fit all my gear on two shelves. :notsure:

That creel bag hanging on the left. That was my birthday gift at age 7 (I'm 47 now). It's an LL Bean bag and is has not shown any sign of wear in all these years (a little dirty). Granted, it's not been used in many years, but I'd never get rid of it. I was so excited to get that!
My parents would drop my off at a brook in the morning and then pick me up in the afternoon. I could never count the # of brook trout that have been stuffed in that thing. Remember when kids could actually do those type of things w/out their parents being arrested for neglect?

You def. need all the fly's. I just learned I don't need to carry them all every time I go out. I have friends that have vests or packs that are 20lbs. and they complain about how heavy they are, or hang them in a tree while fishing. The minimalist approach is the way to go. You really learn what flies work on the water your fishing at that time of year.
