Nah. They'll never outlaw human driven cars all together...thats going way to far. Hyperbolic even. Making them non street legal? Perhaps.

It is possible that they will restrict certain high density areas (manhattan etc) to autonomous only cars simply because the benefits would exponentially out weigh the draw backs but why would they do that out in the sticks? No point. Besides people drive non-street legal vehicles on the street all the time out there.

Even still you'd be able to have them, offroad them, build them etc. Theyd just be like the purpose built offroad buggies we have now. Cant legally drive those things on the road but they arent illegal to have and use where deemed appropriate.

Fwiw, I'll always have a manually driven vehicle, even if its illegal. Both of my cars have 6MTs and i have little to no interest in riding in an autonomous car everywhere. I just want everyone else to because most people are stupid and careless.

Not sure why the government should mandate anything that's gonna increase the price of these already expensive cars. Ultimately the consumer should have the choice.

Doesn't matter if it's subject to it or not, inflation is a bigger driver. It'd rather pay for a $5k feature once, than have a 3% increase in cost yearly.

Public safety comes before consumer choice. Especially when the measures make a massive difference. Seat belts and airbags cut yearly deaths almost by half and it's been stuck there since. Active safety is the only real solution to bring that number down.

I feel the same as you. I am curious if we will be able to swap out grills and still keep the safety features by some how re-attaching them.

That's bad news since I can't swing a 2017 at the moment. I can weigh the pros and cons to any new technology the cons seem to always out weigh the pros. Can we all say Takata , every current and future automotive consumer is still paying off that law suit.

My favorite thing about my 2012 Bcab, the Etune system didn't come standard until 2013. I'd probably like it if I had it, but that's not the point.

Lose the tech, and people can pay attention to what matters, the driving.

For the price of safety sense, I'd feel safer with rear discs and, LED headlights.

Didn't know about the 4runner not having this feature, Toyota must have a refresh or the next gen 4runner coming out soon.

The automotive industry writes their own regulation, PS I'm not Russian.
