    On the rental thing.
The Dealer is getting paid from Toyota corporate for your rental.
So the dealer is trying to get you in one of their rentals. Which is usually a canary or Corolla.call you local car/truck rental place get a price for the vehicle you "need"
Call corporate and tell them your dealer only has cars you need a truck.

My rental paperwork says it's 32.41/day for this Tacoma. I have seen a brand-new F250 gasser 4wd go for 250/week.
What I'm trying to point out is if you can get a rental in the 32.50 range I don't see why Toyota wouldn't go for it.

I am not refer timing to you in particular.
I was just mentioning it because the dealer usually try to make you think they are doing the rental car as a "favor"
    When they are getting paid.

So, does this qualify if you have gotten the frame sprayed by Toyota before? Mine was sprayed at some point (previous owner) but there is a small hole in the frame. The spraying would have had to have been at least 3+ years ago. I did get the postcard when they came out.

Also truck lived in Massachusetts the first 8 years of its life but has been in Florida the past 3. Would that affect eligibility?

Didn't get a chance to read the whole thread.
I am getting new factory leaf springs under warranty from a recall of whatever for free next week.
So basically I tell them do the frame too?

New member here, I figured I'd share my experience with Toyota (dealer and corp) on the frame replacement.

Background - 2005 tacoma, access cab, 4x4 TRD off road, just north of 180xxx. Spent from 2005-2012 in CT and from 2012-now in southern MD.

Back in April/May of 2016 I noticed a lot of rust (including holes through frame) well doing an oil change. Called Toyota corporate, opened case, etc. I was pretty much told too bad you missed the deadline and by acknowledging the issue I relieved Toyota of any liability.

Started looking more into it and researching after I heard about the Brian Warner case and have been reading this forum every few days since.

First 2 or 3 phone calls to dealership about settlement - "don't know what you're talking about"
Next - bring it in for an inspection, you don't need an appointment

Brought in for first inspection - You must have an appointment, it will be at least 2.5 hours until it can be looked at. So, I made an appointment.
First appointment - Well we can't inspect it today, the technician who does that type of inspection doesn't work on Saturdays. You'll have to bring it in during the week.

And that brings us up to today.

Brought the truck in, took about 30 minutes before I was called back because the technician wanted to meet. He said it will definitely qualify for a frame replacement. But, there was lots of other work that was recommended and if stuff breaks and needs replacing during the frame replacement those expenses would be out of my pocket (estimate was up to $7000 - included possibly drive shaft, steering column, shocks & struts, from half of exhaust system, and some more). I argued a bit, told them I thought that frame and all necessary components were included in the settlement. They told me the settlement only included the frame, brake lines, and lower control arms. I decided to go out and call Toyota corp. They told me that the additional work may be covered by toyota if it was caused by the dealership during the frame replacement. But, this would be reviewed on a case by case basis by a Case Manager. So, essentially if the drive shaft U-joint breaks when they take the truck apart the dealership will be trying to bill me for a new drive shaft and I will then have to bring that up to Toyota corp where it is not guaranteed that they will do anything. At the end of it all (and 4 hours later) I left the truck, got a rental (camry), and they are writing up a list detailing the recommended work. When the frame work is done the dealership is supposed to call me before any additional work is done.

Bottom line is that is seems like a huge amount of risk to have the frame replaced. I could end up with a $7k bill that Toyota corp says they won't cover because it was a preexisting condition as noted on the dealerships recommended work list. All of this for a truck that I drive only 1 to 2 days a week (I have a company vehicle for work). The thing that really gets me is my last payment was about 2 weeks ago.

Let me know your thoughts / suggestions

    I think a 7K bill is better than a 15k + 7K bill.

I respect your opinions but in my case I am willing to pay for parts that Toyota doesn't cover.
