Toyota: Why pay for resale value if you never intend to re-sell? (yes, I changed the title)

Or perhaps even when you respect things you can still use them to their fullest and they all wear out predictably... even if you are "hard" on something it doesn't mean you don't respect it. I was hard on my body playing sports, and have injuries to go with it. Still respected my body, and lived life to the fullest. It depends on your perspective. My only real point in this whole thing was that these trucks wear out just like everything else, their cost should reflect that they are no different than anything else mechanically. The Tacoma mystique needs to die so we can actually enjoy the trucks for what they are. Nice, functional, normal non-spectacular trucks.

Again, if no one bought them, the price would be lower. Supply and demand. It's that simple.

Not objecting to that... but 21 pages cause a dude drives his trucks to the brink of destruction in a few years and is complaining about them not holding up?

Nothing will last if you are trying to break stuff.

True! This is why I'm not buying one even though I have cash and a financing approval to buy one... Tacoma has broken up with me as a buyer and started to court the minivan market. Maybe they should give Target gift cards with every purchase. :)

and how is this thread 21 pages? It's the internet... it has no purpose, there is no reason; only Zuul.

I think OP would be better off buying one of those ex-utility service trucks that have manual windows and vinyl floors and seats.

All joking aside: what do you speak of? My perfect truck would be bare-bones (except have AC), no power options, manual transmission, light, bullet proof. Know any place to get these vehicles ?

There's certainly a balance to be struck. It's learned behavior. Let us not minimize things, the line between hard and excessive can easily be blurred and crossed. As parts age the frequency of mechanical defect increases by a magnitude with harsher driving.

In order to rectify my prior indiscretions I've prescribed the following:
    -Akebono Performance Pads
    -Raybestos Advanced Technology Rotors
    -Beck/Arnley Coated Calipers
    -Drum Rebuild
    -Bilstein 5100s

Wish I could! Saving my cash for a house right now, so even though I could technically; the house comes first. I have financing but the credit union here has no good way of giving funds to a private seller, only to a dealership. :(

My experience with credit unions is that they will overnight a check to you for a dealership or a private party deal.

A possible hang up is needing a title to be cleared of the lien with the funds that you are providing to a private seller.

It complicates things, but if you are patient and find the right deal with a motivated seller I'm confident you can accomplish what you want.
