I recently noticed my release bearing chirping and made an appointment at the dealership. In the round 1, they claimed they could not hear anything and that the idling truck sounded normal... Round 2 started this morning...again they claimed they could not hear anything wrong....so i let the truck idle outside the service department while i showed the service manager and a tech the video i had recorded with my blackberry...the noise on the video was obvious. We all then went outside and and listened to the noise first hand....the tech said it was normal and that i was hearing the cat converter....this was followed by your truck is still being broken in!!! I told him the truck had 40 000 km on it and asked how long the break in period should be!! @#?%$@#! They agreed to keep it overnight and start it cold to see if the chirping was there.... The thought of replacing the clutch, bell housing and or entire transmission before 100k at my cost is ridiculous! I m no engineer but a steel bearing on an aluminum shaft....what the f!@# did they think was going to happen! I have been driving Toyota trucks forever and this is a great truck but this is seriously trying my Toyota loyalty. Round 3 tomorrow!

Alright I have a 4cyl 5speed 08 Tacoma. I am now at 28000 mi and my truck is beginning to chatter when I start out in first gear, and progressively gets better as I get higher up in gears. I looked under the truck today and noticed fluid running down the bell housing starting at the slave/master? cylinder. Anyone else have a problem like this? I've had several other manual trucks and cars and have never had a clutch as unresponsive as this one!

Check this out if you haven't already seen it... this is exactly what I wanted to do the first time around. I found this over with the FJ guys, awesome find. This would be an excellent TSB candidate. It doesn't change the push pivot design, but it appears to be a proven kit.

Here's the company link, and some of their pictures...
    http://www.pdmtsk.com/home.html

I emailed them and offered to send them my older scored '05 RA60F bell housing to make me a kit. The difficulty may be finding a substitute release bearing, or difficulty trying to modify one.

Please keep us posted on our fix, But to add I have seen and heard brand new over the road trucks with clutch chater and a lite sqeak. Were talking trucks with price tags triple ours. So I will just drive mine until I can swap in a better trans. I'm going to keep my Taco bad trans or not.

    I have an '08 4cyl 5 speed w/15,000 miles...

I don't have a 'chirp' but I have the diesel sound and it goes away when the clutch is depressed... I'm assuming it's also a TO bearing issue? I don't ever remember hearing a 'chirp' but the sound I'm getting started very quickly after I got the truck... maybe within 3 months... it was summer and at first I thought it had something to do with the AC as it was more noticeable w/AC or fan on but once it cooled off I noticed the sound is there regardless of the fan or AC running.

galvanic action...steel TO and aluminum pilot shaft...two metals touching eachother cause corrosion on both metals over time..i have this problem too...i bought my truck in august of last year no problem. got a new clutch one month later and this chirpping begins...is it bad to drive with my foot on the clutch engaged 1" so the chirppin quiets?

I asked a guy I know that builds clutches for light duty and heavy duty diesels and asked why can't the pressure plate have the bearing mounted on it like the big rig plates, I will see what he comes up with, I sent him a link to this thread.

have they tried replacing the pressure plate or fork? pressure plate fingers may or may not be applying proper force. fork may be bend/warped/damaged. maybe the input shaft bearing is going out and causing excessive play in the shaft causing bearing to prematurely fail.

Its an Aisin trans what do you expect? GM is using the same one thats in our trucks for the 10 Camaro V6, 300hp 270 lbft, haha poor Camaro owners. Chrysler was smart enough to get away from that junk in the early 2000s after those p.o.s. gave them the rep of bad trannys. Ever hear of any Dodge/Jeep trans probs lately?

Took mine in last week. Of course no noise at the dealership, just at home. They said they heard no issue but shot some grease up on the bearing anyways just in case. Said if it is the TOB then it is part of the clutch assembly and is only covered under 3/36 warranty. Which is total BS. I told him the next time i hear the noise im bringing it down dropping it off. cant wait for the noise to return.

The weirdest part is when i drove off the lot last week i made it 100 yards and had a check engine light come on, loss of power and a harsh idling engine. the computer said that cylinder 5 had a backfire of misfire, cant remember what he said. Really kinda over all the issues with my truck.

I spoke with one of the tech's and he said they will be doing a drive line recall this summer as well. due to a bad bolt or something, he didn't really know fully what was with it.

Really Toyota, get your heads outta your a** and start making reliable trucks again. wish i would have kept my old 85. kinda jealous of my fiance's 03 with no issues yet.

My throwout bearing squeaked practically ever since the truck was new. Mechanic friend said it was unlikely to leave me stranded, so I let it go. That was 14 years ago. I have to ask if there are any long term consequences to this, if it's really worth the trouble of fixing if it's just going to keep happening?

Does anyone have an examples of the bearing actually failing? I.E falling apart and leaving them stranded? Just curious.

Mine squeaks but I just kinda ignore it.

First To bearing changed at 30k
In right now again at 56k for same thing

This post is 3 years old and no TSB. WTF! Now my warranty will be gone and I'll be stuck pulling the tranny out every 30k. $600 bucks for now on.
I'll never buy another Toyota again.

All they had to do was acknowledge the problem and fix it! A TSB Maybe?

    Even Gm does that.

    I love you Toyota!
