So apparently getting a "remedy notice" does not mean your dealer has the parts, just FYI if anyone else doesn't realize that. Here's what happened:

Having received "remedy notices" for both the rear diff and the CPS recalls about 2 weeks ago, I called my dealer and scheduled to take it in yesterday. Dropped the truck off at 9am. They called me around 2:30pm to inform me my diff is leaking and they had to order the parts for it and the CPS and don't recommend driving it. They don't have an ETA on the parts and have about 30 Tacomas sitting out back waiting on the diff parts. So now my truck is sitting at the dealer for who knows how long and I'm driving a 2017 Camry.

You don't say. It's not like we currently have a 168 page thread on this or anything.

Yeah well, sorry I didn't read every single post in 168 pages! I had read some posts of people taking in for other service and finding out about the recall or having a leak and taking it in BEFORE getting a remedy notice and having to leave their truck. I had previously gotten "interim" notices saying Toyota was aware of the issues and was working on the "remedy" and when the the fix was available they would send another notice. So that was my point. I thought getting the remedy notice meant they parts would be at least available to the dealer and not on "national backorder" with no ETA. Which is obviously not the case.

Am I to understand hat if I go buy a brand new tacoma that has a mfg date of June-17, it may exhibit this problem sometime and need service? Or has it been rectified at the factory for newly assembled examples?

    LS1 swap with nitros.
It will, without question, have at least a poorly shifting tranny, under filled tranny, in-greased zircs, wind howl, leaking diff, CPS failure, misaligned bed, leaking rear brake light, and more. As you can see, the factory is quick to resolve all quality issues that are seen on this truck.

Luckily, Toyota is working to address these issues and the 2018 is already being named the perfect vehicle by many major magazines.

Was starting to get triggered and that last line made me lol.
But seriously almost all of those on that list are not issues for 95% of trucks.

Where would you rather have your truck sit? In a field or parking lot at the dealer or your garage?

I should have mentioned I'm looking at a manual transmission. So at least a couple of those don't apply :)

Good to hear. Looking hard at a '17. Wondering if it's worth waiting for the '18 (for new features and/or QC issue resolution)

Dude the worst place you could have came to is this forum. It only represents a tiny cross section of Tacoma owners. Out of that tiny cross section, an even tinier portion are people that have trucks with issues. * BUT* those guys preach for hours at a time in every single thread at the top of their lungs about their problems! While it seems like every Tacoma has problems, in real life only a few have any issues.
Take this thread for example. This guy started a thread (even though there is a massive thread already on this topic) to complain about the difference between "remedy and recall." All he had to do is call the dealer and ask if the word remedy meant they had parts to fix his truck. But no! Because he didn't, he comes here and starts a new thread to help those who are vocabulary challenged. Go buy a truck and enjoy.

Just called my dealer in Spartanburg SC. They are getting 2 Sensors a day with no delivery on Mondays. He's got 6 people in front of me. He'll call me when it's my turn.

    Just some FYI.
