Well that is the professional way of doing it but crawl control isn't for professionals

@m3bassman congrats on the truck! Always liked red tacomas. The 3rd gens are growing on me but I don't think I'll be getting a vehicle for a few years. It'll give Toyota some more time to sort out their problems.

In person it's a burnt orange to me. I'm still waking up and the pic you posted has red tints. Inferno > red.

Until it's house buying time (not for a long time) I'll be keeping that the same.

Yeah sometimes just need to notch the pride a little. Sounds like you just need to trade it back in for the auto and crawl control. Maybe after a few trails with it you will be ready for a first gen to start custom building. Who knows really? some people learn faster than others ymmv.

    @Blackdawg

    I'm pondering...

Find a used motor, 1kish (unknown history, maybe JDM)
    Find a refurbished motor, 3kish

Do you have any idea of changes a JDM might have and consequently how they may affect a SC install?

You might want to ask @1997tacomav6 too, but I think emissions and the intake manifold and throttle body are the most notable changes. Some people mention the oil cooler being different too, but swappable.

Unfortunately I can't read, strange I know. Probably leaves you with more questions than answer right now and that's ok.

No of course it wasn't a wise financial choice and hell yes the jeeps SUUUUUUUCCCCKKKK. Same experience i had except i was in a rubi and an auto. no idea why people buy them.

    But whatever.

I don't like how your profile pic has change or your description under your avatar....whos truck is this again?

Devin calls it "tomato bisque"

    Same here. Same plan.

JDM emissions will be very different. Even more choked off.

That said. you can take the long block from it and just swap all your stuff over and you're good(intake exhaust headers the works)

I wouldn't be that worried personally about buying a use motor somewhere as long as you went through it.

You could sell the blower and fund a v8 swap with it though haha

Sold is not what I'd call it, parted ways to retain the house in a split. Half of something leaves me nothing.

My worry about going through it is right now I don't have a vehicle. That adds time and if I have to send anything off I'm boned

I'm in the middle of swapping stuff and can tell you, it is mostly just labor, not a whole lot of stuff to buy. Buy a basic gasket kit for you motor, swap your intake and exhaust equip and drop it in. Labor intensive, sure... Difficult, meh not really.

so how are you getting around right now?

If time is an issue. only one anwser. Buy a refurb motor. Take it to a shop or toyota and let them do it. big $$$ though. But motor swap and shit like that is very time consuming.

I have a work truck for work, but there is nothing for leisure. Even more unfortunate is my t4r is at my families so I can't tinker.

The labor doesn't worry me I can handle that, but I don't want to toss a SC on a unknown motor sitting with 200k. JDM is my best bet other than refurbished.

So my issue with JDM is emissions, nothing else. Swap my intake and a few exhaust items?

Yeah JDM or a low mileage US spec will both probably require swapping at least the intake. But it's totally doable. Depending on when you get around to it, id give you my engine hoist. I still need it for a couple weeks but after that I'm done with it hopefully for a long time.

I have a 97 3.4 with a bad headgasket that you could rebuild. What happened to the 4Runner?
