Toyota: Why pay for resale value if you never intend to re-sell? (yes, I changed the title)

The current credit union I have says that they have to get the seller to place a lien on the title stating the credit union is the lienholder and then give it to the credit union, wait for it to be verified then issue a check... I don't think I would go for that as a seller. Perhaps some other places have better car loan methodology for private sellers? Need to research some more. Or hope my randomly over-heating No AC '96 holds up another year after I buy this house so I can just save cash. :)

I won't lie, I'm getting some butterflies and funny flutters reading your posts! Your logic is just so damn hard to deny! When I see a clean and polished truck I think the same thing I do when I see a carpenter with a pristine hammer or welding gloves without burn marks. I buy a car when I need a car, when I need to use that car like a truck I buy a truck versus abusing the car, when I reach a point of abusing that truck I buy a larger truck. Do you get what I'm saying here, these aren't cars so treating them like trucks isn't abuse, abuse is trying to pull 10,000 pounds with your Tacoma or never changing the oil. I treat my trucks like I treat my woman, ride it hard and put it away wet.

I totally hear you, I'm a late nighter big time, people tend to think the 8 hours I choose to sleep per day somehow means I can't get nearly as much done. Alternate facts I guess, who knows, we live in a crazy world.

Oh and the regulations in the US on the diesels makes it tough. VW has done it and a few others but it's a lot more work or we would have some of the real Toyotas in America! I'll take a VW Amarok over a Tacoma all day any day every day!

Ask your city or county what they do with their retired trucks like that. Usually they auction them off.

It is the credit unions responsibility to assign a lien to the vehicle through Florida's electronic lien and title system. If they do not pay to use the electronic system then form HSMV 82139 is filled out by the lender and you must sign it. (I'm assuming you are in FL, your profile says outsida tampa)

The only responsibility of the private party seller is to get the lien removed from the vehicle prior to sale. They must somehow get the loan paid off. This is where the complications arise from.

Buying a vehicle that still has a lien on it would seem to me to be a very bad idea in most circumstances.

Pretty common situation. Any newer vehicles that a private party sells will most likely have a bank lien. I've sold many vehicles with liens on them. The banks sign a lien release form when payoff is made and then the title is transferred to the next bank, or private party if they pay cash.

Yes, but the buyer needs to really be careful to know what they are doing. In the case where the seller doesn't have the money to pay it off until they get the funds from the buyer there is a window where the buyer has paid but the lein is still held and therefore the title can't transfer for some amount of time. That creates an exposure for the buyer (but not the seller). I qualified my statement with "in most cases" because I'm sure that people who really know what they are doing, such as those who buy and sell cars for a living, know how to limit their liability.

Think a bill of sale would be legal enough to take care of this.

Obviously this is done at the bank, with the buyer handing the check or cash to the bank for the payoff and the title release form being done.

If a buyer doesn't do their homework, then even buying a vehicle where there is no lien has just as much risk. It can even have some more risk. It must be done in a place of business that has the legal right to do the paperwork and title transfer.

Just speaking from my personal experience, Tacomas have been the most reliable longest lasting vehicles I've owned, and I have been very hard on them.

I had a ford that had so much go wrong that I spend probably as much on fixing it as the truck was actually worth.
If you're trying to say you get more for you money with one of the brodoser brands, I am hard pressed to believe that. I say that from a technical standpoint, regardless of my Tacoma fanboyism.

I got my 2008 2.7 4x4 for 15,000$ with 85k on it. Not bad in terms of the cost to value ratio of you ask me.

I also personally hate Automatic Trans, and unless you're going to buy a Frontier Pro4x, I don't see any other options out there.

I'd rather buy my money into a Tacoma than a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, or Nissan anyday.. But hey that is just my opinion, spend your money on whatever makes you happy bro!

Had several dealers say the same stupid shit to me, and after they said that kind of stuff I politely let them know right away I hate auto trans and that I'm going to do my business elsewhere. I think those salesmen are used to selling to people who never get their hands dirty. One salesguy actually understood and helped me try to order one from the factory, I was quoted a 3 month wait, I appreciated his help but ended up getting a used truck. It was actually so refreshing that he was actually trying to get me what I want instead of sell me something, that I had my GF go to him to buy a new car.

My department uses Tacomas, and the city utility workers drive tacos as well.

I ran a stock 2005 TRD OR MT AC for 300k+ miles with just fluid changes, tires, and headlights.. Neglected oil changes several times... Never had to do any serious work on it. Never had any problems.. Also, caught air in it multiple times, literally, jumped the truck multiple times. I'm pretty sold on taco reliability.

Caught air in my 2.7 as well..:plane:

Interesting that some mention blue collar workers not being able to afford a Tacoma nowdays. Probably because I am old, but this doesn't make sense to me. I have known Toyota trucks since the 1970s when one of my buddies bought one (we were 18). We carpooled in it to work at our summer jobs at a union factory and caught hell from everyone there. I have never known a time when I thought of a Tacoma as a blue collar truck. No self respecting blue collar worker or farmer would have been caught dead in anything other than a Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. Tacomas are great off-road trucks and weekend project trucks, but suck in most (not all) cases as a work truck due to size and towing capacity. I suppose the definition of blue collar might have changed a lot over the years. What pisses a blue collar worker of my generation off is that an F250 super duty can cost more than a decent house in some places.
