Hi there, I'm new to the forum. Can't wait to get some good info for my tacoma in the future.
I currently have a 2.25" top coil spring spacer with stock shocks for now. I am running 285s, and it's great but they still rub a bit. I would like to add an additional 2" of lift if possible. And not break the bank to do it. Mostly on road and light off-road use. I realize I will have to get some aftermarket shocks which is fine.
Is there any way I can just add some billstien 5100s adjustable with the current coil spacer I have to add more lift? Or even just add some in coil spacer, or isolators in combo with my top spacers to add lift? Looking to add 2 more inches. Thanks a lot!

I'm not an expert on this but even with the Bilsteins you rub the risk of breaking the dampers(shocks) or something else. On a 4x4 the CV angles would wear these out prematurely and you probably wouldn't be able to get a half decent alignment.

For anything above three inches on these trucks, you have to either go drop bracket, long travel, or spindle lift if 2WD. These types of lifts can get expensinve; in the case of drop brackets irreversible.

Yeah I was definitely thinking of getting a Diff drop bracket to help the cv angles out a bit. Just want an additional 2" on top of my spacer. 1" Would probably be fine but I figure if I'm tearing it apart and doing all that work I might as well go up another inch

He's not talking about a Diff Drop, he's talking about a Drop Bracket lift kit. Looks like you need to do a lot of serious research before doing anything else. And what you are referring to as in the Diff Drop kit, they are completely useless on our 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma's.

Yeah I realize he was talking drop bracket lift kit. But it is good to know the diff drop won't do anything for me. That saved me some time and money, thank you

    Matt,
Is your truck a 4wd or Prerunner?
And where do your 285s rub?

My truck is a 4wd. And they rub only on the frame by the body mount, only when it's 3/4 turn and in reverse. I already did a little cutting on the plastic for them to clear .

That's pretty standard for a 2nd gen with 285s and lifting it more won't really help. Spend your money on a cab mount chop. It will stop rubbing, save you a lot of money and not ruin the suspension geometry on the truck.

I was thinking that also it's a good idea but I do want a little more lift. It almost seems as if it was a little higher that cab mount would clear just barely . And I'm trying to say away from cutting up tge frame

Only way to stop rubbing is the CMC - if you get a good fabricator, you don't even know it's been done. Highly recommend this.

It also really depends on your wheel offset, tire thread, and alignment settings. My old setup with 285s BFG KO with offset wheels required trimming of the front of the wheelwell but never rubbed on the cab mount at full lock.

I would keep the lift under 3 inches. I am currently running Bilstein 5100s with OME 887 springs and it rides beautiful. You could also run the stock springs with the Bilsteins at 2.5. There is tons of info on this website. Do your research and spend money once.

Get rid of the spacer lift asap. You do not need a diff drop.
Get rid of spacers lift asap, do not need a diff drop, lift your truck correctly. I did this for about a grand. And this is how it sits with full steel plate bumper and 10K winch.

Yeah I'm finding out that there's no good cheaper way to do it. I just thought of the combo and figured I'd ask. Looks like I will have to spend a lot of cash to do it the right way.

    You can't go over 3" with a 4wd.

    I'm running 35s with a 2" lift.....cutting is the only way

What do you guys think of this lift? 2.5" to 5" adjustable in the front. 3" in the rear. Kinda cheap still but figured I'd ask

    Like I already said

You can't go over 3" with out a drop bracket

That lift does not go to 5" in the front safely.....
