    This is the start of a whole bathroom redo....new tub, new tile surround, new hardware with a curved shower rod and paint. Yep, this is what I get to do rather than anything for my truck. :(

    Plugged all the holes last night. Around 500 plugged, cut and sanded.

    Pretty easy project - got the new storm door installed. Well worth the extra $$ to upgrade to the 400 Series (EMCO/Andersen) for the latching hardware and the exterior lapping on the non hinge side that provides two levels/layers of weatherstripping. Much better than the surface mounted latching hardware that was on the previous door. Didn't even need to mortise out the brick moulding for the latch & deadbolt. It faces SE so it get's direct sun all seasons and snow drifts in winter.

    The retractable screen is pretty sweet too!

    Nice enough out - I may even get a coat of preservative on the deck too.

    Our house was built in '89. When we moved in, all three toilets were original and terrible; the super low to the ground low flow integral low slung tank. I replaced the one in the master bath the first week we moved and just lived with the other two. Finally happened that the fill valves wouldn't shut off all the way. The problem is the universal fill valves don't fit in those stupidly shallow tanks, and I hated the toilets enough that I wasn't going to special order the valves. I'm not sure how much water we were actually losing, but it all ended today. Picked up two new toilets and started installing. Pulled the first toilet and found that original ABS flange was embedded in the slab cockeyed. No wonder the toilet always rocked, the T-bolt pulled out and broke the flange due to the angle. Had to break down and buy a hammer drill so I could install a flange repair kit, Tapcon anchored to the slab. Pulled the second toilet and even worse news! The toilet had been grouted to the tile and whoever installed the original flange didn't glue it well enough because a tree root was coming through the joint between the pipe and flange and was growing down the pipe! Another root had followed and was just starting to poke up around the outside of the flange between it and the slab. I cut back all the roots, drowned the area in Roundup with a pre-emergent and let it dry. Once everything was dry, I cleaned up all the seams and sealed them with silicone. I'm going to let the silicone cure overnight and will hopefully get the new toilet in tomorrow morning.

    Sounds like you had a crappy day. I bet urinal better place once you get the job done. Replacing an old toilet can be a shitty job.

    :D

    I'm remodeling my bathroom and decided to skip the wax ring and go with one of these;

    Let me know how it works. I've had Home Depot employees at two different stores tell me that that is one of the most returned items in the plumbing isle.

    Really? Hmmm, not so sure about it now... it has a lot of good reviews. Did they say why?

    Nope. I just asked for their opinions on them and that is wait they said. So I bought extra thick wax rings instead.

    Very punny.

    I've read the Fluidmaster waxless rings don't work that we'll, and the Korky version is a little better, but still not as good as wax. With the beauty of modern smartphones technology, it's awesome to be able to scan the product's barcode in the store and read its reviews right there.
