I want to start a clothing brand but don't know were to begin. Do I have to TM the brand name before I start printing with the brand name? Were can I Trade Mark and what are some of the steps I need to take? Thanks in advance.

A couple of people I know have there own clothing brands. out of the 3 people that did it only one really did much with it. I actually think hes in Santa Barbara this week promoting his line at some party. I really dont think you have to trademark it before you start printing. jsut know that anyone can then use that label or name if you dont trademark it

your gona need a business license, and some money! maybe someone with faith in you that will invest? a LOT of people want to do the same thing, how are you going to set yourself apart from the rest of the little clothing brands people make?
what age group are you going to market your clothing to? and how are you going to do it? it costs a lot to advertise, but it's very VERY important!

just some things to consider before you go to far.

It has been awhile since I learned about this in college but I do not believe you have to register a trademark, once it becomes synonymous with your brand then its yours. However, it is a lot easier to sucessfully sue for trademark infringement if you register your trademark. If I was you, get your company started, once you start making $, trademark it. If you don't make $, then you will have saved a lot of time.
    Prepare to be bored:

TM is not so bad. Use legalzoom. I've done it for 3 companies in the last year.
