Hello, I want to take off the OEM Tonneau from my new 2017 Tacoma to put on a camper and CL'ing it as I won't need it anymore. A friend of mine was interested, but wondered how hard they are to install on a different truck that never had one? I didn't take off the latches yet, but can see there will be quite a few holes to drill - 10 for the 5 latches, 2 for the locking bolt mount, and 2 for the front support - as well as swapping out the plastic bed liner rails (for the cutouts). Are there hidden nuts on the back of the screws, or are they just tapped through the bed metal? Just wondering if anyone did this before and what issues they encountered before I try this... thanks!

If you're swapping with another 16/17, there's no need to drill any holes. First remove the plastic bed rail caps, you'll need to do this on both vehicles and swap them. The caps just pry up by hand with no tools. There are no hidden nuts, just tapped through metal. The new tacoma should also have the same factory drilled holes under the bed caps, so all you need is a spline bit to remove latches and install on new truck. I just bought one off CL and the whole swap took maybe 15-20 minutes. Make sure to swap the little rubber gasket pieces that are at the front corners of the bed.

I also have a bestop soft topper that I use for camping and I plan on using the tonneau in the winter. I highly recommend looking into one! gives you both options for a reasonable price rather than a fixed shell thats a pain in the ass to take on and off/store. Just my two cents!
