I'm with you on that. We were due for some flooding after this drought. Just didn't think it would be in August

October and then again in May since we've had flooding around Memorial Day 3 years in a row

Washout this past weekend with wind that took down a huge branch slicing through some of my adirondack chairs around the fire pit. Supposed to be a soaker again today. Feels like a fall morning

It's almost 2pm and I'm just getting home. Not a happy turd owner right now. I also left with a huge screw in my rear tire.

    Checking in...already with a headache.

Topic of the night if I may?

    Learn me on home automation.

I have a garage web cam, but have found the IR illumination to be severely lacking. The night vision on the camera just sucks, but the daylight use of the camera is quite good.

I have my own router in the shop.

I want to dedicate one plug to one set of shop lights that I can remotely energize.

The preliminary reading that I have been doing indicates that I (my phone) must be on the shop WiFi for the plug to be controlled. Is this true?

Does anyone have such an animal that can truly be controlled remotely?

In addition, many are saying they can be controlled with the aid of Alexis or similar. I would like to avoid that if possible.

We can use some more

    Finally. Way overdue.

    :hattip: Welcome back

Haven't looked into beyond the Google Home or Alexis, But like you, I don't want that. Not a fan of spying listening devices (tin foil hat on)... Wifi controlled setups would be the best route to look as you've suggested. Is your shop on a separate wifi router than home or is it all one network?

So it sounds like you'd need Wifi outlets, connected to a router point in shop and in turn to the main network. They should just show up on your home network this way if that's how it's connected, giving you control from anywhere you can connect to your home network. From my limited knowledge on the subject anyway.
