same question here. Have a '17 on the line spec'd how I want it but wondering if it's worth waiting for the TSS-P stuff and / or any TSB-type fixes that may be implemented in the '18.

EDIT: Also wondering if the '17 will be discounted at all when the '18s are set to come out. I don't know if that's something that happens in this segment or to the tacoma

I've actually read a lot of that. It's a pretty long read and I have not seen a consensus. I guess my specific question is whether to expect to see any discounts to move some of the '17's. Some people fear the incoming Safety Nanny stuff, some embrace it -- so no real good there. I guess I would also wonder how much the TSS-P stuff will add to the cost of the Tacoma.

There is nothing in that thread about pricing on the 18s but it does show a screen shot of some new packages.

The MSRP will be slightly more on a 2018 due to the addition of safety sense, if it is true it will be added. There are some color changes for 2018, Cement will now be available on Sport and Off Road, as well as the packages have changed(TRD models will have leather available). Pricing has not been released yet.

I have been waiting since 2015 and have not purchased yet because when the 2016 was released I wanted to wait a bit, almost bought one but something didn't feel right at the time. Then it was stated the 2017 had changes such as power sliding rear window. I waited some more. Then with seeing the recalls for the crank position sensor and now rear diff, I waited yet again. Now it is so close to more info being released on the 2018, I shall wait some more.
Who knows, I may finally get a new truck by the time by daughter graduates college in 2020.

Of course it's worth it to wait for the 2018s, cause then you'll be the few first to have it on this forum.

But seriously you might be disappointed if they load the truck up with safety sense junk for the 2018s. Might make wheeling annoying with the system thinking a small child is in front of you when in reality it's just a Sick Jump you're going to take.

Was really surprised when i saw how much a blind spot monitor sensor was worth.... (~$500). Can't wait to see the forward radar for safety sense.

Unlikely you'll see much, if any discounts on the 2017s - they may just be cheaper MSRP b/c of the reduced cost of not having TSS, but in my experience (I bought a '17 last fall) it was no cheaper to buy a '16 and there were very few left around in late Oct / early Nov when I was buying. Despite the issues many have had, they still sell like hotcakes and folks generally have to wait awhile to get them.

Spoke with a Toyota Sales guy today, (I know, all lies), he said the new trucks will start hitting the floors around mid-November. But that Toyota hadn't released and press releases or info to the dealers directly, which typically means there are no major upgrades coming. How confident are we that the 18 Tacoma gets Safety Sense? Cause part of says hes just trying to sell those dozen 17s hes got.....

I don't think there will be any significant changes to wait for. The only thing you will get is a newer model year.

New model years in general are released around Sept, so the 18s should be here soon. The previous model years do usually have rebates to clear room for the new models, and they increase as time gets closer. Some rebates can come out as early as April, depending on the release dates etc.

I am waiting. The 18 will likely be debugged. Unless they offer a 17 at an EXTREME discount it makes no sense what so every to purchase a truck that will be 1 year old in 1 month. Think about the trade in value or resale lost in in 1 years time. If you're going to keep it forever then it doesn't make much difference.

They're probably right, I'm just speaking in general terms of most manufacturers and was trying to inform them that it should only be a couple of months wait at most. It'll always vary though, our 2014 Lexus hit the dealer in June 2013.

Agreed on the normal arrival time frame, seems as though they are running behind on the 18s.

I just bought a 17'. I don't really care that its going to be a "year older" when the 18s come out... it still only has 300 miles on it, so its brand new in that sense. I don't care for the safety crap as i will be putting steel bumpers front and rear soon, so all that comes off anyway. Didn't want to pay an extra couple hundred bucks for a "brand new 18" when it all the added features are pointless to me. would l like to have a brand new model year just to say i do? yup, worth it? not imo. I'm happy with my 17

TACO BANDIT from YouTube talked about the 2018 changes for the Tacoma and Tundra's on yesterday's 8/6/17 broadcast.

Fixed JBL audio passender door rattle with felt between door and switch plate. Reseated driver side body mount behind passenger seat to fix annoying clicking/creaking sound.
Just consider if you really want those safety features they are adding to the 2018 models and do some research on what can and cannot be disabled in other Toyota models that already have the features.

Those safety features can be very annoying. The GM version of Dynamic Cruise Control that was in my 16' Yukon Denali almost caused people to rear end me in several cases. It sensed people turning right a considerable distance in front of me and slammed on the breaks because it thought they were stopped in the road instead of turning.

The good thing is you can disable it and use conventional cruise in Toyotas. This wasn't the case in the GM implementation. If cruise was on it was enabled.

My wife's Lexus GX 460 has front and rear park assist and we have to turn off the park assist in car washes and drive throughs. It isn't easy to turn off either since there isn't a button to push, its buried in a vehicle menu. :annoyed:

My wife has a Subaru Forester and all that safety stuff won't work in direct sunlight. Not safe driving and your cruise control and all that other safety stuff cuts off.:mudding:
