With this new NY window tint law in affect. To those members with tint, what has been your experience when you went to renew your inspection ?, Were you rejected or did your shop not make a big deal of it?

Have my fronts tinted and would hate to have to peel it off in order to pass.

i got rejected right off the bat... shit sucks...

options in effort of avoiding this would be:
    A) we pick up a set of community doors without tints
    B) try pulling the window fuse (not sure if this will fly)
    C) tube doors (with side view mirrors)
    D) find a shop in some hood area or up in the middle of bubble fuck
    E) out of state plates
    F) letter from doctor for one of the reasons that allow medically mandated auto glass tint
    G) remove them and re tint them every year
    H) just do not get the inspection and see how long you can roll (this would be an issue with city parking)

It would be really nice to have some of this transitional eye glass technology made for auto glass

    I like the list!

Where did you go to get your inspection, a local shop?

I wonder if Atlantic toyota in islip would even notice on a busy Saturday. Roll up with windows down. I know probably not, but maybe worth a shot.

yea it is worth a shot at the dealership but I assume they will fail it, and not sure the window fuse trick would work or maybe just remove the door card and unplug the window switch and put the door card back on maybe.

I think removing the tint and re tinting it would be the easiest way, tinting the front two windows is a lot easier than people make it out to be and you can buy auto tint very cheap at an ace hardware or any auto supply store

Yeah I may go this route, just redo it myself.

Did you remove the tint yourself? Looks like a heat gun and some patience will do the trick?

Yea I have removed a lot of tint myself throughout the years, very very easy

    no heat gun needed honestly

just a fresh clean razor and a little water is all that is needed

with the razor and your hands you can pretty much get all the tint off and any residue on the glass just spray a little water and with the razor it all comes right off

obviously use the flat side of the razor, it comes off very easy and it will not scratch your glass

The precut pieces on ebay looks very tempting, range from $18 to $25. Some youtubers seem to recommend it.

I have not tried the pre cut ones but I bet if done right it would come out good enough for 12 months, but with a roll you also have some room for error..
it might be a trial and error thing where you might have to screw one up before you get it right

a spray bottle some fresh razors and some tint film is all cheap enough at under 30 bucks probably

rain guards probably help cover up a little if you really butcher the trimming along the top edge also

heck I have seen some tint guys use a sharpie to mask their terribly cut lines and it go seemingly unnoticed to the owners of these vehicles.... fuck if you think my stink eye aint catching that though :annoyed:

it is the rear glass on coupes and sedans that really blows, but that is legal anyway so don't let them fool you with that tint being illegal as well...

Yeah man, that is a killer. Sedans/coupes really get hosed big time.

it really is bullshit for the sedans and wagons, kids in baby seats should not be exposed during prolonged drives like that, it is ridiculous honestly.

though I kinda like these car door window sock shades, they allow you to open the window and still keep the shade going.

I was reading that part in reason for all this is for law enforcement to be able to see inside easier and so they can feel safer during traffic stops..

honestly that is a load of shit...

they should make it a law that if and when you get pulled over the driver is mandated to open all windows.

the fact civilians have rules that officials are exempt from is enraging

there are some political figures that live in my area and when they roll through town they blast down through the middle of 25a, 3 or 4 vehicles deep, black suburbans fully tinted glass including windshield, blazing down the middle of 25a with their lights on totally exempt and oblivious to whatever traffic or anything in their way, totally above the law...

Digging the sock shade, pretty smart alternative.

I went to my local inspection place with my windows rolled down and they passed it. Picked it up with my windows still rolled down so I doubt they even checked.

That was going to be my plan, then I went the hella JDM route and did 20% rears and no tint up front.

New Hampshire is even worse with tint than NY... Ugh.
