Jake has like 3-7 now, I have literally lost count of his RTT collection. Guess he is an RTT hotel planned for his F350. :D

Good to hear the positive feedback on the annex! Which model Tepui is that? I really like the green color.

I have the same feelings about the annex if you are doing more then a quick overnight. If you get in at dark and leave 1st thing the next morning it is not worth the hassle.

    Stuff. Also things.
It's technically the Gran Sabana Ruggedized, but I think it's now called the Autana XL. It's the big bastard with the vestibule. I really wanted the haze gray with a blue fly, but the green has definitely grown on me.
I totally agree. If you're setting up in one place for at least a couple nights, the annex is worth it.

What model RTT is that? (edit, nvm I saw above)

Been on the fence about them. Many pros and cons.

One thing is: the size RTT I would need to keep the GF happy (sleeping with me and my daughter) would be 72"x48" closed. That's essentially covering my entire bed. Would make packing and unpacking stuff from underneath a serious PITA.

The packing/unpacking wasn't really an issue with a mid-height rack. Though, I would go full height if I do another pickup with some sort of topper/softtopper under the tent for dry storage.

I have a low(?) rack which I like because the RTT would be below roof line for less drag during the travel to "get there."

Loaded up with my totes below is not that bad but that's because I have access to the bed space behind the bed rack like this. However with an XL RTT I wouldn't have that, I'd have to slide the totes/etc from the side.

My Tacoma with a mid height (my guess is about 6" higher than yours) didn't have any noticeable wind drag or fuel mileage drop with 3-4" of tent over the roof line. All the way up from a full height rack could be noticeable.

My Tundra with a similar height was able to get 21mpg from Denver to Moab last fall. I was following some 1st gens that only wanted to run 65mph so that helped.

Both were at a good height for loading and unloading gear.

With that 1st gen set up are you able to effectively set up an annex?

For a person at 5'10" it was able to be set up with a slight crouch. I would need another 3" higher to be closer to the Tundra height to be comfortable.

    Thanks for the input.

I still see too many cons (for my set up anyway) to pull the trigger on something so spendy.

So it turns out my steering rack bushings weren't actually that bad. The edges looked gnarly but the inside were in good shape, plus they look to have the same setup with the gold colored inner piece. My guess is that they were aftermarket, installed by the PO some 50k ago? Oh well, red looks a lot better anyways. I also got the inner/outer tie rods installed, plus finally bought some bigger jackstands. Still have a little bit of play, I'm going to do the steering rack guide mod and the slip joint mod once I get back from vacation.

That's the conclusion I come to everytime I look into RTTs. I really want a flippac, I think that's the best solution.

Or... get a canvas ground tent! Loving my black pine deluxe 6 person tent. Fast setup and quick take down and I don't have to worry about putting it away everytime I want to drive the truck somewhere.

Once my body says, "fuck you" for the last time waking up on the ground, I'm pretty sure this is the way to go as well.

Plus it'll kill two birds with one stone... supplant that F%#%! leaky topper I have.

Expo trailer would be the way to go but it limits where you can go
