Is there a good place to fish and camp in the north east?

Where to start...?

Adirondacks
Greens
Whites
Appalachians
Berkshires
Catskills

What exactly do you have in mind? Type of fishing? When are you thinking? How remote? Solo/Romantic/Family?

Here is a bump.
Whenever I think Northeast I think up here in New England. If you ever come up this way, lots of ponds and lakes to fish and camp to your hearts content.
Have fun and hope you get some ideas. :)

My personal favorite area in Vermont is the Northeast Kingdom.
Lake Seymour, Lake Willoughby, Crystal and Caspian Lakes has the best fishing and crystal clear waters.

Within easy driving distance to these lakes are Newark, Long and Job pond, Island Pond, Norton, Averill and Little Averill ponds. I have kayaked in all these places while my friend Kurt has fished there.

There is the Silvo Conte Wilderness area that has free camping sites with no facilities & even some 4 wheeling trails. Brighton State Park and Maidstone State Park has excellent facilities. Maidstone Lake is famous for its loons which you will hear at night.

Also another great fishing spot is Lake Memphremagog, a glacier formed lake famous for its huge Northern Pike and Lake Trout & has about 20 islands. It is not necessarily my favorite for lots of boaters & more development means not as clean, but it is attractive spot for fishing due to the large fish that come out of there.

The NEK is a paradise for hiking, fishing, mountain biking (Burke Mountain), kayaking. It is one of my favorite outdoor areas.
You get up there by taking I93 to I91. It is close to Canada & probably not within your time but if you ever get time I would highly recommend it.

So out of these options what would be the best for bringing my 5 year old with me to have a father son fishing/camping trip.

You shouldn't be too far from deep creek lake. A lot of good fishing and camping out there. Also if you really want to have a good time fishing contact ed at www.potomacguides.com. My brother and I go on the smallmouth trip on the susquehanna(sp) every year. Never pulled less then 30 fish days and last year pulled a couple 5lb smallies. It's the best guided trip I've ever been on, and there is plenty of camping out there. It's about 30 miles north of Harrisburg, PA.

I would think NEK is going to be a long drive with a young one, maybe not if you were going to do it I would say stay at Brighton State Park with a young child.

Maybe something closer your way, like the other fellow just suggested or you could always head up to the Lake George NY Region. It is beautiful there as well & there is plenty to do, water parks on top of fishing and camping. Its right off I87 north of Albany. Any Lake George region folks know good campgrounds and fishing spots?

Really there is so much amazing country all over.
Bump, maybe someone has other ideas.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
It's striper season. Just my opinion, but they don't start a lot of trout stocking programs until next month and the water is still a little chilly for bass. I'd stick to the coast and do my fishing off the beach. It's striper season with some real cows (50lbs!!!) being taken from the ocean side surf along with winter flounder season being open plus the usual skates, rays, sea robins, dog fish, etc. Just something to think about.

I live in the Lake George region and May/June is prime trout season up here. Unfortunatly it is also black fly season, which can be rough on the young ones. You can stream fish for brookies, shore fish for bullhead, or hire a charter and catch Lake trout and Landlock Salmon. You would be ahead of the tourist season so no worry about getting a good camping spot, also alot of fun stuff for kids to do.

I was just up in north creek, the guides all said it was too early in the season and the water is still too cold. So I didn't pay for the guide and went fishing in Orange County where I live and caught 5 or 6 pickerel 3 crappie and 3 blue gill in 2 hours of fishing.I will have to get some picks up soon.

Funny since they still take trips out of north creek this time of year. I'll be on the Hudson-Indian with a foot of snow on the ground and they will have fishing trips coming down with us.

We have a Campground up here in Ct that is right on the Farmington river...Austin Hawes Campground..pretty decent & the river is right there. Both spin fishing & flyfishing but if anyone gets bored there is tubing & canoeing on the river as well. For your drive you'd take I-95 up to Ct & cross over to Rt 8.
