usually you just choose a channel. Doesnt matter. If someone else is on there, then go to another one.

 

yea that makes sense.... I guess in Colorado they were more constant on that channel because if you need help / get stranded you really could die due to the isolation of certain trails / mountains / inclement weather.... here, it's not too isolated... you can walk for a couple hours in almost any direction and find SOMEONE.

Typically most run either 4, 5 or 6 bc that is what majority of your parks run. As long as you stay off 9 and 19 it really doesn't matter.

 

That's definitely something I can see as being useful... being on the same channel as the parks / local ranger station....

19 is the truckers, right? What is 9?

 

9 is emergencies and 19 is truckers / traffic etc...

 

9 is emergency channel
