Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

I've got almost 20k on my stock Wranglers and they don't look like i will be able to get more than 10k more out of them. They have been pretty much all highway miles too.

 

would you guys recommend wearing down the OEM (zero miles) tires, then upgrading? or just sell them while they are new to get the most cash out of them and using that towards a tire upgrade? I plan on hitting some trails, I'm afraid they might be a bit of a limiting factor.

 

I always replace early and sell the tires for cash.

I won't tell you not to get cash for them in good shape if you can get a buyer, but I'll also add that I did a few trips on the stock wranglers and they do surprisingly well. The clearance will be limiting, sure, but if you're with buddies and can get a tug (which you probably should be if you're wheeling anywhere with even a remote chance of getting stuck), I think the wranglers would do you pretty good if you want to wait.

 

Same. I did a good trail here without getting stuck once with the stock wranglers. Really good AT tires.

Took mine out over the weekend, even with only 5/32's left they still performed admirably. Not a bad tire, tread life sucks though.

 

Sell the stock tires ASAP and get bigger/better tires. I got my SCS F5s mounted on the truck with the stock tires. Now I have awesome rims and lame stock all-weather tires.

 

I put 255/85R16 KO2s on my OR on my OR wheels and they rubbed! Had to go with 265/75R16. The first rub location is at the rear of the front tires at half turn (not full turn). Here's a photo of that location showing a 0.4" gap with 31.5 265/75R16 tires:

Can anyone else show us photos showing the gap at the rear of the front wheels at half turn on your 33" tires?

 

There's a bunch of pictures of that gap in the first post of the thread. JK I'm stupid those pictures are not at half turn.

I'm more curious about where on earth you managed to find KO2's that are 255s...(those dont even exist on the BFG website) Also, are those mudflaps? @Sandytaco14 mentioned in one of the posts having to remove his flaps because the tires rubbed on those.

I also just noticed that per your 'mod list' you have skids. That extra weight on the stock suspension may be causing issues as well, especially since the front bears most of that load.

 

I rubbed extremely rarely on the flaps prior to adding weight. After adding skids on stock suspension, I rubbed on the time on the flaps. I didn't rub after I removed the flaps completely.

Yes, they are, and maybe that's the problem. I thought they were only adding 1/8" but maybe there's more there than I realize. I'll look into it - thanks bud!

 

I certainly would. That's exactly what mine were rubbing on. I still have the rear flaps on, but fronts are gone.

 

Right, I had struckthrough that line after I realized my mistake. Hope you figure out what the problem is.

Also, post a link to 255/85/16 KO2s and you'll make alot of friends.

 

Defineitly think it's the mudflaps, I had the.exact same thing happen to me.

 

Curious about where he found that size as well. Makes me think it's a different size, and he's confused.

No one has seen that tire in that size I believe

Um the OP in this thread is of a set of 255/85/16 KM2s. The Discount Tire I went to said they had KO2s in 255/85/16, 265/75/16 and 265/70/16. Apparently they don't make a 255/80/16 which I might have gone for. They test fitted a 255/85/16 for me but it rubbed on my mudflaps (I didn't bother getting a photo) so we went with the 265/75/16's. Now, is it possible that I asked for KO2s but they substituted KM2s and I didn't notice for the 30 seconds it was in front of me? Yes, that's possible. Goto Discount Tire [https://www.discounttire.com/store/tx/san-antonio/s/1682] and ask for a KO2s in 255/85/16 and see if they tell you "yes, we have them in stock".
