2017 Super white paint problem

Yep just get you some good wax like Mothers or Mequiars synthetic and a polisher and wash with a good car wash (not dishwashing liquid) and it will be fine. My 2011 looked great after 6 years. I usually waxed it every year. I have already waxed my new one and will wax it again before winter. Keep em slick and the junk will slide off them.

 

FINALLY got the call that they will repaint the hood. Can't believe they actually gave me the run around till my original advisor returned from vacation. If everything goes good I'll have the truck back before I go to Utah in 2 weeks.
Then while talking about Utah at work today this got dropped off.

 

I have the same issue but in a different locations. I first noticed on the front passenger side door after one year and four months an area about one foot by six inches. Went to the point of sale last week and they had a body shop polish it out with a color polish and I think they said 2000 or 5000 grit color polish and so far it looks good. The supervisor at The Body Shop noticed another spot on my front passenger side fender of which I'm going to include photos of here in this post.
My Taco is a white 2016 TRD off-road, 4 door, rear wheel drive, 22k miles on it.

 

I just noticed mines started to have the same spots on my passenger door, drivers door and rear bed of my truck. I have a scheduled appointment to have it checked out on 1/25/18 and I will see what they say.

 

I'm in the club too!!! The service rep is coming down on Thursday, I'm going to make a closer look around the whole truck now that I've noticed some have had multiple spots. Knew I should of went with the quicksand lmao.

I have the same problem but its on my doors. Took it to the dealership and they inspected it. They took my truck in the back and waxed it out. They said white don't have clear coat and said that it was oxidation. I haven't wax n polish my truck for almost year and a half. Lol So they they told me to wax my truck at least twice a year.

 

Why not? How much does corporate save by short changing people who decide to buy white?

 

The ceramic coats are similar to the dino-era carnuba waxes.... add shine, UV protection, etc. Their main difference is durability and how long they last. Typical carnuba waxes seem to last 3-6 months if you are lucky. A lot of newer sealants seem to last a year or so. The cermaic coatings can last several years.

The biggest difference is how often you need to apply. Do I want to apply wax every 3 months (e.g. merguirs wax)? Sealant once a year (e.g. Klasse)? ceramic once every 2-3 years (e.g. Crystal Serum Light)? The $700 isnt that bad if you take that into consideration, especially seeing what the sun does to car paint in Florida.

 

Ceramic coating do a lot better for cars/trucks if they’re outside in the elements especially if your exposed to iron fall out and salted roads in the winter. Bird poop etches your paint on sealant and waxes...ceramic coating they don’t in my experience of having it for a year now. My paint is still smooth like a baby’s bottom.

700 investment on my coating is priceless to have it clean 24/7 this past year. For anyone who thinks ceramic coatings are snake oil.

 

White has clear coat mixed in. I’ve never had a problem with my super white vehicles, in fact, they seem to do the best of all the colors I’ve ever had!

 

It's not so much that its clear coat is mixed in, single stage paint has everything all-in-one so the color and strengtheners are in the paint from the first coat to the last. Any chip or scratch that doesn't go down to the metal will still have that protection. The downside is that blemishes are more obvious and it is (generally) very slightly softer than clear coat but at the same time, they are easier to polish out.

With the clear coat, the paint is just color and it's super soft. It gives a great depth and makes colors look far better but if the clear is penetrated by a scratch, chip, or over-polishing, the paint that remains doesn't offer as strong of protection. The clear is what provides the hardness and protection.

I went super white and just plan on my usual couple coats of wax a few times a year. It's going to get scratches and dings from use anyway so I'm not really concerned with how perfect the paint is so long as it still protects.

 

Good in-depth info, that certainly clarifies my understanding how single stage works!

 

Is it safe to buy a Super White now or is this color cursed to have wet sanded spots. Need to check with this thread first before proceeding.

 

A couple people had issues and the other hundred thousand didn’t. No color issue, they have used this color for years on many vehicles.

 

I've had three Super White Tacomas over the last decades and never a problem like that. They'll probably replace your hood, or you could get one of the useless ones with the useless hood scoop like on my Pro. I keep it waxed with Maguires top line synthetic. Have used it for years. I park it outside, since my wife parks her Forester in the garage.
