    TL;DR: Does a grounding bolt need to contact the inner diameter of the mourning hole to get a solid ground or is the unpainted surface sandwiched against a wire terminal sufficient?
    Is 16ga wire too small to run the length of the truck, in regards to voltage drop, and not fire the light?


    Tried to wire up some aux reverse lights yesterday and was using an existing harness that I was running for the front of the truck. Extended the trigger wire (87) and ran it to the rear or the truck. Grounded lights to the frame, took paint off with Dremel, lights don't work.

    Tried three different lights and none of them worked. Tested the lights and they all lit up separate of the harness so lights are for sure good. Trying to ground to the frame but the bolt I'm trying to use is smaller than the ID of the hole in the frame. Relay is good, will engage via the switch so it has to be the ground right? Twisted wire connections together and used wire nuts respectively when troubleshooting :annoyed::frusty:

    Run a seperate jumper wire outside the truck from battery ground post and use to ground light. That will eliminate chassis ground and tell you if you need a better ground at the light

    Check voltage off the relay with a test light. 16 gauge should be fine for some sux lights. I would not recommend wire nuts for connectors on a truck. They are meant for a house or non movable structure imo. Check the light right off the relay and ground them really good That's key.
