First Major Service?

I just hit 24000KM on my 09 DC LB which I got in june 09. I have changed the oil many times. Just wondering when the first major service should be done. Grease drive shaft etc...

15,000 miles (which is close to 24,000 km) is when the driveshafts are supposed to be greased.

do you have a grease gun? if you can change your own oil you can def grease your drive shafts...

 

I can change the oil no problem but I do not have a grease gun. The dealer just told me that the driveshaft should be greased at 32000 KM which is around 20000 miles.

 

grease guns are very inexpensive and the process of greasing your drive shafts is very easy. I wouldnt pay someone to do it for me..

You should grease your drive shaft every time you change your oil at a minimum in most mechanics opinion - I grease every oil change and once in the middle of the interval. Toyota recommends in their manual to grease every 16,000 kms but is usually done at every oil change at any competent shop.

Your first major service isn't until 48,000 Kms when you spark plugs need to be changed, along with some other items.

Your dealer was somewhat correct when they told you the shaft needed greasing at 32,000 kms. What he neglected to tell you however, is that you definitely shouldn't go 32,000 kms IN BETWEEN greasing. Don't be surprised it you need some universal joints put into that drive shaft in the near future. The positive side is that they are fairly cheap at around $10 a pop, but labor is going to cost you if you can't do it yourself.
