Also, I may be learning how to drive it. Never feather the throttle and don't hang around in the 50-60 mph range. Only problem is most highways have 55mph speed limit!!

I agree. It's probably all our fault. I mean, it can't be Toyota's fault so it must be us. We are all very bad people. This coming from the same corporation that tells people how to enter and exit a truck so as to not prematurely wear the seats.... Now I know for sure it's our fault. We probably deserve this....

Well, if you are entering and exiting at lower speeds and feel a drivetrain shutter then you are definitely doing something wrong and you should get a certified Toyota technician to help you. I heard a rumor that a TSB would be out any day. LOL

I noticed the noise in the first few hundred miles of driving. My truck has more than 13,000 miles on it and the noise has not gotten any worse.

I still think Toyota should come up with a permanent solution to the problem and implement a plan to address it.

My replacement diff definitely got louder over the course of 14k miles. I remember when I first got it it was noticeable but slightly quieter than the old diff. It finally got loud enough to just make me go sell the truck. Once my ears picked it up, it was honestly all I could focus on hearing on the highway and it even started howling over a wider speed range (although quieter at other speeds).

If any other vehicle made noise like that from the diff, it would be the telltale sign that you either had shitty cheap gears or you need to go to a driveline shop and have it fixed. I don't know what was causing it, since Toyota said it was normal, but I felt if any person heard that on a private sale test drive they would not buy my truck. I sure as hell wouldnt, unless it was at an insanely low price and i could factor in 1.5-2k to fix the diff. So I got out while I was ahead when dealers were still offering good amounts for the 2016.

Guess I'm lucky. On the same diff with same amount of howl for 17k miles. Guess I'll keep driving and see how it plays out!:fingerscrossed:

Well got off the phone with my case manager he claims there is no way to escalate the case or do anything it is a "normal" characteristic of the truck.... They seemed it as normal because another truck did it. That just means they are designed like shit!! Everyone needs to call 1 800 331 4331 and let them know this is an issue.

Like stated before I drove my truck a quart low since that was how it came and figured out it was low by checking it after I got the noise at 400 miles. They won't even pull the plug and look for metal shavings from wear. They won't do anything but that is a diagnosis listening and claiming normal when they know it was low. I'm about to get rid of this POS and buy an American car. I could care less if it won't go 300k miles or whatever. Better than paying Toyota money for a piece of shit that would whine unbearably for 300k miles.

I also do think there is a thing that can be done under lemon law with Toyota constantly claiming it is "normal". The built rear ends in trucks for 35 years and they were quiet yet the 3rd gen has to be the biggest sluggish jumpy piece of low torque shit to ever hit the road.

Because someone says it is normal does not mean it is. This is a shameful first line defense from every manufacturer. I bet Toyota loses at least 9/10 times on this argument.

You were lied to. Please share your case manager's name to give them the shame that comes from a blatant and dismissive lie.

Wonder why so many people are getting different answers? That makes me think this problem has not made it to the higher ups. If so, everyone would get the same answer.

I think all the inconsistencies is what pisses me off, some dealers swap out the rear, others say a guaranteed fix is in the works, and this shit about it being normal with no fix coming.

Brought it back to the dealer an hour ago told them to have a tech drive it. He said my rear is fucked and they are replacing it. Thank God. The noise better not come back or I will be there again. Mine was a quart low new so mine may be more damaged than normal.

The case manager at corporate was literally not helpful at all. Claimed there is nothing they can do it is normal blah blah. Tried to tell me lemon law doesn't apply to.an issue that degrades vehicle value. Fucking lie!
