A 90' V is optimal for an 8 cylinder engine because it's inherently smooth and balanaced. That's why nearly all V8's use that bank angle. Most 90' V6 engines are V8's with 2 cylinders missing. 90' V's, regardless whether they are 8 or 6 cylinders, have an odd firing order which gives uneven exhaust pulses. Your ears interpret that uneven noise as a deep, throaty sound.

But 90' V6's are also inherently not well balanced. That's why a lot of older GM V6's idled a bit rough. Counter rotating balance shafts can help smooth that out some.

On the other hand, a 60' V6 is inherently smoother and better balanced...and tends to package better. It also as a more even firing order. It's that even firing order that gives closely spaced exhaust pulses. The close pulses yield a more raspy....less throaty sound.

Mechanically the 1GR sounds good under load. But it will never have that throaty exhaust note so many people are looking for. It's just physics.

This is the best sounding factory V6 in my opinion. Of course, it's a 90' V6 based on a modular V8 engine. Our engine could never sound like this.

Not much yet, but do have Flowmaster exhaust, with Rockford Fosgate P600.1Bd 600 RMS Mono amp for my 12" P3 with custom box and a Punch P400-4 Four Channel amp for my mids and highs running 100 watts per channel and have two speakers on each channel, not to mention 6 more hooked to the 4 channels from the headunit as well....Hopefully soon will be a body lift with new tires, and eventually the actual suspension...
Hey guys, I hope someone could point me in the right direction...

I would like to just bolt on a new piece of stainless steel pipe that extends out maybe a foot, from the y pipe flange at the passenger side door and then has a bend down towards the ground (to clear the frame). Followed by another bend say maybe 45 degrees or so that will route the exhaust out the side in front of the rear tire and put an exhaust tip (maybe TRD, not sure, suggestions would be nice...) to help with back pressure.

Anyone have any suggestions on somewhere that has a pipe like this? I know I can't be the first to try this. I figured I could find one super cheap since it's only like 2 ft of pipe, but nope, nowhere.....thanks in advance!

I just did a supercharger, smaller pulley, DT long tubes, DT Y-pipe, and a 3" URD cat back. The power is great. The Supercharger whine is cool.

The exhaust sound? Well, it sounds like a V6 with with no cats.

Far from beastly IMO. It's just not a V8.

I wanted to do the same thing you are thinking about doing.

First I put the K&N 77 series intake on my truck. I thought the change in sound was awesome and I convinced myself that it increased the power of my truck. After a few weeks I put on the American Thunder Flowmaster exhaust system. I thought it was cool for about a month. The combination of the air intake with the exhaust was really loud when you stepped on the gas. REALLY LOUD.

After the newness started to wear off I noticed that my truck really sounded like....well......shit.
I couldn't hear anything while I was driving my truck at normal speeds. It's especially loud in the 40 - 50 mph hour range. Very annoying when you have passengers!

Think, mid 90's Honda civic with a coffee can exhaust on it. You know what I'm talking about.

Currently the K&N intake is collecting dust in its original box stuck in the corner of my garage. I'll never put it back on my truck.
The exhaust is still on my truck and I cuss myself everyday for it.

If you want my opinion. Take the money you are going to spend on the intake and exhaust and upgrade your stereo system.
You'll be happier in the long run.

    Urd mk2 or mk3 exhaust?
The mark2 exhaust is not pleasing to the ears at all imho. Alot of ppl run 2 mufflers, as gadget did with the mark3 catback.

A single magnaflow just sounds terribly raspy without cats

I only have the one Magnaflow. It's fine though. I never expected it to sound great. I just needed more power. The sound is just the byproduct of that power

And just think the pipebomb is supposed to help with rasp.

I have a small borla right after the ypipe and a super44 further back. No rasp, just deep rumble.

I don't find it all that raspy with the Pipe Bomb. I was just saying that it's not music to the ears. Like a SBC for instance.

Sumbish, i tbought it had 2....
He just rerouted a lil around thespare tire area which is cool because some couldnt make the exhaust fit with a stock size 265/70/16 tire.

What makes you think there is a problem with the back pressure your motor has? Its a V6 truck motor, not a hotrod. Its back pressure is fine and there will be no gain in hp by screwing with it.

Well, my truck weighs 6000 lbs without the trailer. It's certainly not a rocket ship even WITH the SC.

I wasn't exaggerating when I said I needed more power...

Seriously, Leave your exhaust alone. Spend your money on something else.
