I just went on Toyota website and it appears that the 4 cylinder 4x4 with manual transmission is no longer an option.....

Thanks for everyone's responses! In the end I got the i4. Didn't lock down the best deal but I had to drive 200 miles to find it in gray. Woooo!! Now to install that cruise control and intermittent wipers.

Nice truck. I really think I could live with the 4 banger if things were different.

More like get the 4cyl if you want something durable, and don't mind driving a gutless hog of a truck.

Get the v6 if you wan't the engine that can actually perform decently and give you the best power, the best power/mpg ratio, and everything else.

The only retort that you can make is durability, and that's only because you're driving an engine that hasn't been updated in 10 years. The Jury is still out with regards to the durability of the new 3.5.

Like stated above, most of us that own the v6 don't really care about the 4cyl tacos. But let me tell you, I've been in the other seat, driving the 4cyl and I sure as fuck cared and wished back then that I hadn't made the mistake I did. I must've said 1,000 times that I should've bought the v6. But I didn't buy it because I couldn't afford it then.

The point I'm making is, either buy it nice or buy it twice. Either get the v6 and never look back, or get an older gen taco if you can't afford that. With that said, I'm sure there are many happy I4 taco owners and that's all fine and dandy, but really drive one before you buy, because the people getting on these forums and saying "there isn't much of a power difference", need to have their heads examined.

Nah. I've owned both. And I've driven both updated versions. I put no stock in what you say.

The 4cyl is far from a gutless hog. I previously had a 2014 2.7 auto, which was slow but still doable. With the 6sp auto in my 2017 2.7, it is significantly better. I did test drive the 3.5, but still felt the 2.7 was more than adequate.

But the 2.7 vs 3.5 arguement is all relative anyways. Between my two Tacomas I had a Tundra. Compared to the Tundra, the 3.5 Tacoma is the "gutless hog".

All are great trucks, but for my needs and wants, I love my 2.7.

Nice color, but the other grey next to it is what I wish I was able to get. If I didn't need the double cab and want the manual trans, I probably would have ended up with the same as you.

    Enjoy.

I'm one of those guys that feel the V6 could have more power. In my opinion, it's not as bad as people claim it is on this site, but it could definitely use more torque from a stand-still. Now, when you're cruising and need to floor it go gain some speed, she has no problem whatsoever. That being said, I've also heard great things about the 4 cyl tacoma and at 2.7 liters, it's probably one of the biggest 4 cylinder engines on any car in the market right now. What I would do is go on youtube and look up some "0-60 acceleration" videos of both engines and see what you think. No it's not the same as driving one, but by the looks of it, the 4 cylinder isn't anywhere near as slow as a Kia Forte like I thought it would be. (I just watched both before typing this)

If it's going to put you in a tough financial spot in the future or if you ever are out of a job for some time, go with what you can afford. You can't go wrong with either.
