bokeh is nice but it all depends on the lens, some have peak sharpness curves beyond their most stopped down point.

the lens i carry with me all the time shoots well at its most stopped end point but on the fast shooting can produce a hit or miss.

i personally shoot in 3.2 - 8 range depending isolation or scenery shots

I decided against using the bull for the protein shakes, as my lovely wife had suggested, and decided on this blender.

a or aperture mode is good to learn in before you go full manual. Good way to figure out exposure compensation and metering

iso is your sensor sensitivity to light, higher numbers take in more light but makes noise
    it should let you

All this talk kinda makes me want a good camera to take on trips and catch some good pics. Any suggestions for a beginner?

Depends what you want. Do you want a point and shoot like David just got, or a DSLR?

Shooting in raw with something other than a phone really helps in post processing. That was the main thing I was looking for when shopping for a point and shoot. Soon phones will be able to shoot raw and I won't need to carry anything else.

Cell phone editing apps are nice to a point. I use Snapseed to work on my photos like the ones below are off one I took just now and the other on my last Wheeling trip up abbot.2017-08-07 07.25.56 1.jpg

Any certain programs I can use or tricks for an iPhone user?

And nothing fancy because I'm still a beginner and don't want to rush into and blow a bunch of money at first. Budget point and shoot would be nice and easier to carry around.

I don't know anything about point and shoots, so your guess would be as good as mine. I'd just read reviews and find one in your price point.

Snapseed for phones is what I use

For photos outside the cell I run them through lightroom.for quick adjustments or Photoshop for bigger stuff
