No. That sounds like the lower control arm sound. The plugs will fix that. The issue described in this thread occurs between approx 52 and 62 mph.

Forgot about that. Toyota put plugs in the newer trucks guess they decided that was cheap enough to not call "normal"

Yep, I know all about the unintended acceleration issues. Some of my friends took Toyota to task for millions over this issue. Toyota fought the entire way and never waivered in blaming the customers. Basically they said millions of people were too stupid to drive without Toyota telling them how to place their floor mats. The jury called BS.

I was 'unofficially' on the research team for that issue, at Unnamed University, for the EMI issue, that cause unintended acceleration. I know the conclusions.

I feel your sentiment, but I think this will just be an NVH (noise mainly) issue. A nuisance... I don't think there will be much of a safety issue, and I think Toyota knows that. Otherwise, they would have made a statement by now, like they did, proactively before NHTSA nailed them, with the leak.

A buddy I go to church with was one of the lead attorneys. Huge verdict. I am a Taco fan tried and true but not blindly so. No company is perfect and when they do make mistakes they should be more willing to admit it and fix it. I always hear people talk about the Toyota good will when they fixed all the first and second gen frames but pwrhoas they forgot how much the consumer had to go through to get them to do it. Also, there are a lot of ticked off 4Runner owners with rusted out frames as we speak and nothing to show for it.

    I'm actively looking at replacements.

I might switch it up an do a Hyundai Santa Fe. The one with the cooled seats.

I'm not entirely convinced that Toyota deserves it's reputation for reliability. I think they are coasting on historical reputation. These tacomas are a shit show. I've never had a vehicle with these issues.

Brand loyalists will sing you the praises of the Tacoma with it's heritage...of massive frame recalls. Now you get transmission issues, busted diffs, and driveline vibes. I don't think they are worth the money, and they certainly aren't worth the headache.

I rode in my dad's Dakota the other day. It's beat to hell, he's never changed the diff fluid I'm sure, and it has an obvious clunk coming from the front during slow speed stopping. It STILL is quieter, less clunky, less, less vibrations, etc. It doesn't howl. There is less road noise and it's never missed a beat with it's v8 engine. It doesn't flutter. The transmission doesn't lunge or jerk or surge.

It put my brand new Tacoma in perspective and steeled my resolve to unload it. I don't know that I'll be coming back to Toyota. Owning a new Tacoma was an experience...not one that I plan on repeating.

I agree with you. I have never seen so many issues either. There are so many people on here that have obviously never owned that many vehicles that say if it was a Chevy, Ford, or Ram it would be so much worse. Well, I have owned my share of those and they have all had less issues. I would not own a GM now because of all the excessive vibration and cabin pressure issues but my Ford trucks have been money over the years. Toyota is definitely still making it off reputation but for me it's time to put up or shut up for them. I hope my diff gets fixed and I will learn to live with the rest. If not, I will we waiting to see what that Ranger and Jeep truck looks like.

My second gen had zero rear diff howling. My third gen started at 1000 miles and hasn't stopped. I think they were trying to fix the driveline vibration issue the second gen had and unknowingly created another problem.
