I am starting to get excited, trying to get it started is not too far away, prob not tonight, but soon.

 

yea man i hear ya o yea those connector come apart i think i know most do it takes a pick or something thin and the wire comes out the back

 

I really haven't looked at how it comes apart but I will give it a shot...You know which wire I'm talking about, it is the one that we sprayed with the liquid electrical tape because of the bare spot. It was on it's last leg anyways I guess.

O'well, I'll figure something out.

 

Drilled out the holes in my exhaust manifold on my lunch break & got the thread inserts installed. A couple of new studs & nut & this bad boy is good as new. No more exhaust leak. I bought some black VHT "flame proof" header paint that is rated for up to 2000 deg. that I am going to paint it with before I put it back on.

 

that header paint better be osha yellow

i still think it should be yellow so then when people see it coming they put their hard hats on !

 

Not even a remote chance of anything on the truck being yellow

I ve had to fix a few connectors on my 91. No one sells those connectors seperate. Just the whole harness! You 'll probably have to kill the connector a little and crimp the wire back on. It can be done.

I have ALL of the the wires connected accept for the 1 that is broken. I have ALL of the vacuum lines conected, the intake side of the motor is now 100% put back together.

Of course I do have a problem. When I was turning the motor over the other night with a socket on my crank pulley bolt I noticed a funny noise as the motor was turning. I set out to investigate last night & tracked it down to the starter, it was pretty obvious really. The noise I'm hearing is the starter turning with the motor, which must mean that the starter bendix is engaged with the teeth on the flexplate. I loosened the starteer bolts about half a turn & turned the motor with the wrench & the noise went away? Once I retightened them it came right back?? This has me very concerned. I guess what I have decided to do is put the battery in & see how it cranks. I wonder if once I out power to it if the starter bendix will jump in?? I was asking around this morning & the 2 people I talked to about it asked me the same question....."did you put the flexplate on backwards?" I well I sure as hell hope that I didn't!! I only had it off for a couple of minutes while I changed the rear main seal. Not sure how this is going to pan out.

Only thing left to put back together is the exhaust manifold / exhaust pipe & the radiator & fan/ fan shroud. Once I get this starter problem figured out I should be ready to go.

Keith, you where there when I took the flex plate off & put it back on, what do you think? I don't recall that I ever took the thin metal ring around the bolt holes off so I really don't think I have it backwards.

 

I'm not talking about the silver backing plate, it does have a cutout for the starter & there is no way it could be backwards. I'm asking about the "flywheel", or concering auto transmissions it's called a flex plate, with the 6 bolts that we had hell getting loose. You don't think I put that on backwards do you?????

 

which way was it bent out i think it was away from the motor there was like a 3/4 inch of a gap from it and the flex plate

 

Thanks, that is what I wanted to hear, I really don't think that WE put it on backwards, just can't be 100% sure. I don have any starter spacers, but maybe that could be the solution. I could cut out a spacer from some heavy brass shim stock.

I have been going back though all of my pics & looking at the flexplate. You are right on it's about 3/4" gap. The problem is I never took any pics after I replaced the rear main seal. I had to change it last because I couldn't do it on the engine stand. I had to pick it up off of the stand witht he hoist & as soon as I put it back on I put the whole motor in the truck....
