Am I crazy?

I notice a lot of people on here going for the 3 Inch lift are using a coil over setup from say toytec. Now I've installed lift kits on a jeep before and these coil over kits seem to be a joke. Your not actually lifting your truck, instead you are stiffening a spring which forces the truck to sit higher and have a stiffer/more bouncy ride. This seems so illogical. Isn't there a company out there that sells a REAL suspension lift/travel kit for our toyotas? The last one I put on a wrangler actually increased the suspension travel while lifting the truck. This is what you want. Not a cosmetic lift.

Oh and the top plates...those are just a joke. That is essential a body lift. Someone please tell me there is a real kit out for our trucks.

No I'm not, I'm just trying to distinguish a true suspension lift between these coilover setups. So it would be safe to assume that 90% of the people that have a 3" lift have not improved anything but looks and maybe a different ride feel. They haven't gained any actual suspension travel for better articulation.

Do the OME setups actually increase travel?

 

most people dont know what articulation is, they just want their truck to look 3 inch's higher, as for the ome im not sure about it myself

 

for extra travel either a long travel kit or extended travel CO's and UCA's are the way to go.

Yup...what he said...your components are every thing...like for example if you wanted increased travel in the rear you'd get Bilstein 5125's rather than 5100s

 

trucks are typically designed for a different style of offroading. that's why most of the hardcore crawler guys are using jeeps or suzukis (short wheel base) they will increase their articulation via lifts and travel increases to gain more flex to crawl over obstacles. now yes, you can do that with a truck too, but there is a reason the large majority of guys you see doing baja and other desert races use trucks vs jeeps. the suspension is designed for different aplications. the coilover lifts guys put on hteir tacos ARE real lifts. coilovers are far from just asthetic. they are much tougher than stock and have greater heatdisipating capabilities. these systems are still great for slower crawling and such, but they are really designer for absorbsion vs travel that a jeep kit is designed for. there's a reason jeeps with increased suspension travel aren't winning baja. so yes, you are compairing apples to oranges...a similar comparison would be an older toyota with a solid axel...but you'd see in that case that the lift is exactly like a jeeps.

 

Right! IFS is shit for articulation unless you get extend shocks...long travel...or solid axle swap.
