Any chance you could grace me with a part number on that horn/accelerator thing-a-ma-jig? I found two on the TRD website. One is like 8 bucks and the other one is 35.

I have 11k miles, use 87 octane Chevron fuel. On the inaugural drive home from the dealership I got 13.5 mpg/ 90 mile drive, so I guess that was the precursor to my MPG woes. I like my truck in most regards but the subpar fuel economy does irk me.

Isn't the truck running in Atkison Cycle at low rpm's to assist with fuel efficency and then switching to normal mode there after?
I'm still perfectly happy with the truck as is.

    Dang how?
I am in Bakersfield and I am averaging around 18, and it is so far averaging 19 each trip now. Just hit 1000 miles and it is doing as well as my 4 banger 5 speed did. Much easier and more powerful than it was. Now I don't know if I trust it as much as I did that truck, but this so far is much more stable and planted and makes much more power lol

Try 91-93 octane; whatever is the highest that you have. Your case is pretty bad, my first tank of gas I was averaging around 15mpg.

Laughable isn't it? Although I will say I just got back from a roadtrip on this weekend and hit 23.3 highway mpg, so I'm pretty happy about that. (Ended up grabbing a drop in filter)

This. This discussion is on every forum I've been a part of. Not going to notice anything unless you're boosted and your engine needs all that air. for these engines there isn't enough demand to warrant a CAI

Not all intakes are snake oil, my old 2009 xB the intake did quite a bit to liven power band but with that being said it all depends on the specific application. All that I've seen for the 3rd gens says yes but dyno numbers are going to show you the truth. Also what @smitty99 says is true, oiled filters can foul up MAF like no other.

I had the URD Tru CAI, MAF calibrator, AFE cat back exhaust. All three working together helped the power band in my 08 quite a bit. Not sure if the URD CAI is available for the 3rd gens.

    1. The TRD logo, it looks nice and it's not going to mess with your warranty. You are not to see a lot of benefit from it though. Maybe a little bit noisier than stock. It's worth the $400 because it will fit perfectly. The competition...not so much..at least based on my experience.
    2. Pretty much.
    3. The TRD it still sucking air from the wheel. It's just bigger box.
    4. Just marketing and build quality.
    5. For your purpose doesn't matter. I don't think that it will help much. Try using better gasoline. When I tow something I always use 93. For daily driving I use 89. If you really want to feel the difference you should go with TRD intake and upgrade the exhaust too.

I towed a 300lb aluminum boat with MAYBE 500lb trailer up to Woods Canyon lake yesterday and averaged 14.8mpg there and back. I thought that was pretty bad. It was really no weight to speak of just myself and I went very light on gear. On the way back I was wondering what kind of hit an F-150 Ecoboost or a 6.2L GM full size would have taken. Probably wouldn't even have taken it down by 1mpg.

rain guards, hood deflector, oem tonneau, BFG ko2's, led lightbar behind grill, highlift jack mount side rail, husky Xact front & rear mats, bedrug, AFE cold air intake with scoop, TB spacer, Spec U exhaust, Hikari - lumileds Led's, any time backup cam and gps, OV tune 103B, TRD pro grille, Cali raised pod fog lights, ECGS needle bearing, Bilstein 5100's, Low range offroad 3-1 level kit, SPC light racing ctrl arms, spidertraxx 1.25in spacers, Ride right airbags, clazzio seat covers, carrier bearing spacer, diff drop spacer.....
IMG_20170804_162259.jpg I have the afe with scoop and TB spacer. When I first installed the kit I left out the spacer. Definitely had some hesitation from low rpm to wot. After my test drive I immediately installed the TB spacer and this greatly improved this issue and added a kind of turbocharged whistle when getting over the 3500rpm mark. I feel that the throttle response is better than stock and the truck now has some grunt to it now. Now that we got air going in next is to get it out and that is gonna take urd spec u exhaust with power extractors. This combination is sure to wake the 3.5 litre up. Toyota really corked this truck and the final piece to all of this is a OV tune. So is a CAI snake oil?
