    The more weight you add to the back of the truck the harder it is to stop and it lightens up the front end. Steering and stopping are my main priorities when driving in snowy weather.

    1.replace your wore out rear tires.
    B. Take the lead out of your foot and put it in the bed.
    9. It ain't even winter slick out yet!
    14. Ok, 3 things.

    Go to a salvage yard for a dallor you can get some brake drums from a semi. They work great.

    Eh... it does not reduce the weight of the front end. Not trying to be a dick but you can't just go around saying that lol. MAYBE if you had 2000#'s all the way against the tailgate. MAYBE.

    I'll get back with you.

    I'll have to ask my wife what she did, as she seems to have plenty of extra rear weight!

    It doesn't reduce the weight of the vehicle but it changes the weight distribution more biased towards the rear of the vehicle.

    My old 2002 Tacoma was 4x4 and even then those pavers worked awesome.

    Right, but a few hundred pounds in the bed over the axle isn't going to change driving characteristics like you're saying.

    Actually throwing a couple hundred pounds in the bed will do little if anything to gain additional traction.

    But if it makes no difference where the weight goes why not throw the winter weight on the hood of the truck?

    Then how come in my old 1988 Nissan, when I put some weight in the bed I had better traction in the rain?

    I think just about anybody with a truck disagrees with you.

    Lots of good input on this thread but I'm just gonna add my 2 cents. Being from Canada I've seen lots of ideas done, and most work in some fashion. Few things to keep in mind though;
    1) You don't need that much weight in a Taco, 200-250lbs over the axle and you're sitting pretty
    2) Avoid using road sand in sandbags because it often contains salt mixed in salt+science=rust
    3) Whatever you decide works for you, SECURE IT. In an accident any loose objects become very fast projectiles. I wouldn't want a couple paving stones flying around at 100kmph.
