amp mounting locations

Hello,

Still waiting on delivery of my new Prerunner so I thought I'd ask some questions to prep me for my stereo install. Where is everyone mounting their amps? Is there enough room under the seats? Is there enough room behind the seat behind the drivers seat? Can enough air get back there to vent it? Just wondering as I've got a pair of amps I'm looking at installing and I've heard it's kinda small under the front seats in the Tacos. Thanks in advance!

I've got an Alpine 4 channel amp mounted under the drivers seat of my 08 Ex. cab. It sticks out the back a little, so the carpet kind of sits on top of the end of it. The back seats still fold down with no issues. There is less room under the passenger seat due to some sort of cross brace. I have had no overheating problems at all. Hope this helps out.

 

I"ve got an Alpine 4.150 under the passanger seat of mine w/ no room issues. It even sits before the floor vents so hopefully there won't be any heat issues even in winter.

 

Completely depends on the amp and what you are looking to do. I have some beastly sized amps that are requiring a custom amp rack, sitting horizontal behind driver's side back wall (plastic trim stuff removed).

If you haven't bought amps yet, look into stuff like the Alpine PDX amps or something. There's a few companies that have this line of stuff, and the space saving is quite nice.

 

i have the rockford fosgate 300-1 amp under my drivers seat fits like a glove if your amps are big the back they shall go, like everyone else said depends on the amp to where you are going to put it.

 

if its a 4 door, and if your lgoing for "looks" i say mount it behind the rear seats. There are plenty of room behind there, and i have even seen custom boxes with amp mount plates. Just depends on you and the system you trying to hook up.

 

Depends on how much of a headache you want to give yourself . There's enough room to make a lot of things doable, but it isn't a car trunk. Look at some of the guys with dual 10" subs and you will see what I mean.

I say post up some sizing specs on the A/V section, let people know what else is going in (one sub, two subs, etc.), and see what people have to say.

 

Thanks for the replies, I had a JL Audio 500/1 and 300/4 in my Tundra that I took out before I sold it so I was looking to install it in my DC Tacoma, turns out that under the passenger seat is no good. Perhaps I'll see about mounting it behind the drivers side rear seat where there is space, I'm also assuming that I'll need to vent it as does not have enough air circulation. Thanks for the help guys!

Did you try mounting under drivers side? Somebody mentioned a difference in space available under seats between passenger and driver's side.

I am looking at the same amp actually to power my components and am wondering about that same thing.

If you still want under the seat, there's a guy on here who removed the underseat electronics and reversed the stability bar for added space. I don't know if I'd recommend that, as that messes with the airbag sensor and I wonder if you can feel the bar when you go over a bump... Also things are just harder to adjust, it's more susceptible to dirt, people kick it or want to shove clothing/blankets down there...

all you need is an amp rack behind the rear seats. You should be able to mount them vertically with the heat sink pointing up (leave some space between the two for adjustment and heat dissipation). Mr. Marv, our resident expert (he'll blush and deny it, but that's what he is) is currently building me a box and rack that will mount the following stuff:

JL 10w3v2 sub, sealed box
Memphis 16-MCA3004 (18.5" long)
Memphis 16-MCD1000 (15.8" long)

so if he can make that work for me, I'm sure you can get your things in as well.
