The Armory in Springfield no longer produces firearms, but they've got one of the largest firearms collections in the world. It's basically a gun museum.

And Springfield Armory Inc. is based in Illinois

 

My favorite town in Maine is T7 R14. Nice town.

Only thing they have is S&W now. Savage is 5 mins from where I live

 

Very pretty area. I also really like the area that's a little further North and East, the Chamberlain & Eagle lake area.

 

I'm 10 minutes from several hardware stores, a Stop and Shop and Big Y, an Advance Auto, Tractor Supply, and Walmart. Plus some restaurants. It's really not bad. But, I'm also on the VT border, have a river in my back yard, and have never heard a police, fire, or ambulance siren from my house.

I'm in Berkshire County. My town has about 1700 people, I think. North Adams, which is the town 10 minutes south, has about 14,000. Pittsfield is about 45 minutes south and has somewhere around 40,000.

I grew up in a town of 800 out here. Half hour to a grocery store from there. No gas station, store, or post office in the town.

I'll give you it's no Jackman (been there, that's something else!), but there are definitely rural areas here.

 

Hell, I grew up in MA and my graduating class was 42 kids.

 

So the whole school graduated? I think there where about 125ish kids in my high school.

 

Yeah, it's all about your sense of scale. Growing up in Western Maine, 800 people (like Jackman itself) is just a small town to me. The area around a town like that, that's the Sticks.

To somebody from Boston, Berkshire county is probably deep hillbilly country.
To somebody from New York City..."There's only two lanes of traffic in each direction?! We're in the COUNTRY!"

 

My wife's aunt, from Long Island, won't drive on a dirt road.

 

Mine was 600-ish for the whole school (9-12). My graduating class was about 160. But it was a regional high school that served an area of over 200 square miles.

 

Well, dirt roads are uncouth.

 

My class was 35 kids... Private high school

 

Conversely, I go to Boston and wonder why anyone would want to live there and I don't go to NYC because the mere concept of such a place terrifies me.

Although I'm more vexed than terrified of NYC. I don't see the appeal. It's ok for a brief visit but living there would suck.

 

All you have to do is visit after the first good day of snow melt in the spring... Friggin cities stink like rubbish.

I graduated 25th in my class... With a 3.83 GPA... 1st in class had a 4.5 weighted

 

We didn't have class rankings since we were so small haha. We also weren't awarded anything over an A

 

Ironically, my high school had around 1100-200 kids when I was there. My graduating class was around 300, I think. But, my high school was made up of kids from 14 or 15 different surrounding towns that got bused in.
